"Ann! You're going to be late for school! Get out of bed before I make you!", Ann's mom shouted across the house.
"Coming!!", replied Ann before running down the stairs ready for her first day.
"Are you ready for your first day Anny?", asked her father, "I know it's difficult to start school in a brand new school, but I do hope you're going to make new friends.", finished her father while giving her a big hug.
"Dad!", Ann said while getting out of her father's embrace, "I love you too, but I'm not a baby anymore! I love you too Mom, I'm gonna miss you so much!" she said while running to her mother to hug her tightly.
"And I'm gonna miss you even more darling" replied her mother, still holding her tight.
Her father volunteered to drop her at school on her first day, ignoring the protests of Ann. During the car trip, she thought about her new life in this new school, possible new friends, teachers, and subjects. She was quite nervous about it but calmed herself down, thinking that her classmates would be great to her, but would that be the actual case? The car stopped near a big gate; Ann could read the "Riverview Academy" sign above it. It seemed she was early, but she could see the other kids and their families saying their goodbyes. Ann held her backpack tightly and her father reached out to the car boot where her suitcase and stuff were stored. He took her stuff out and helped her carry it to the massive entrance hall. The golden chandelier hanging from the ceiling had candles lighting up the hall. It made her think about a castle. The students were wearing assorted uniforms and leather bags. She felt like an outsider in this brand-new world. Her father gave her a reassuring smile and they both went looking for the headmistress office. They walked in the huge halls for a moment before completely getting lost.
"Well, I think we're lost kid," said Ann's father with his hands in his pockets, looking around them.
Ann sighed and took a deep breath. "Late for my first day, great." she thought. She looked around them and noticed a massive wooden door with golden woodwork all over it. A metal plaque was inlaid on the wooden door and, "Principal Office", was written on it. Ann taped her father's shoulder and gestured to the door."Finally we're not that lost,' grinned Ann, as she walked towards the door.
Her father knocked on the door and a woman answered. "Come in," the voice said.
They entered a room filled with bookshelves and golden woodwork. A smaller version of the chandelier Ann saw in the entrance hall was hanging above a large wooden desk, filled with papers and pens. A middle-aged woman was sitting in a black leather chair. She had jet-black hair, a light complexion, and deep blue eyes.
"Hello, Mr Riley?" asked the headmistress.
"Yes, and this is my daughter, Ann," explained Ann's father.
The headmistress looks at Ann with admiration.
"So this is our new student, " remarked the headmistress, a wide smile on her face, "I've heard a lot about you Ann," finished the headmistress.
"You did?" asked Ann, feeling nervous. What did she hear about her?
"Of course! Only praising from your past teachers, I hope you'll enjoy your stay at the Riverview Academy, and, just to let you know, my name is Kathleen Lipson, you can call me Ms Lipson," replied Ms Lipson.
