~20 years later~
"Ms. Vent? They're ready for you now."
"Thank you Jean. I'll be out there right now." I looked at myself in the mirror one last time before heading out.
Over the years I had accomplished everything I set out to do. I had went to be a professional singer for almost five years and now I'm a bestselling author. What more could I ask for right? As I looked at myself I lowered my gaze to my hand I traced along the diamond that sparkled on the ring that the love of my life gave me years ago. There isn't a day where I don't think about Dylan and that is what pushed me to work harder, he and Andrew both saved me from being controlled my whole life. They made a great impact on my life as they lost their own. Greg and I stopped talking after high school ended. We couldn't hang out without Dylan because of the void we felt and Greg couldn't let go of the guilt of not saving him in time. So we just drifted apart.
"Melody! Come on you're gonna be late for the interview!" I turned to find Lucy standing at the door. She came in and closed the door behind her, "You okay? You look upset." Her gaze followed my hands that were still holding the ring that I was wearing on my ring finger, without any hesitation she came and hugged me, "...I miss brother too..."
Lucy was a cute little girl that grew into a beautiful successful woman. I went and looked for her my junior year of college and remained close friends ever since. She got married and now works for an art museum and music company as a recording artist. From what she's told me a lot of her work was inspired from her childhood because those were her happiest times. When she had her brother.
I hugged her back but as I looked over Lucy's shoulder I felt my heart stop for a split second...there was Dylan. He pressed his index finger to his lips to signal me not to say anything. Dylan walked over to me and pressed his hand against my cheek, a flash of memories began to play the ones that I was able to catch was the first, Dylan and I standing in the church getting married as we stared lovingly at each other, exchanging our rings and sharing our first kiss as husband and wife and the last, the birth of our first child and how our eyes shined as we watched the baby rest in my arms. Then I was suddenly pulled back into reality, Dylan smiled at me and kissed my forehead before disappearing.
"Are you okay? You're crying." Lucy said looking worried.
I wiped away my tears, "Yes... I'm just so happy. Let's go."
The End.
