CHAPTER 1: Ruined Vacation

LIA

As I lost my composure and calmness, I started hitting the door in an attempt to escape.

"I said, stop the car!" I shouted at the top of my lungs.

The driver, for the first time, turned to look at me. "Shut up, conniving woman. You're gonna pay for what you did to the family," he said with a cold voice before turning his attention back to the road.

Confused and still panicking, I screamed, "What the hell are you saying? Stop this goddamn car! Now!"

Of course, he didn't stop the car. He pretended not to hear my screams.

I continued hitting and kicking the door and the window with anything I could use. I also started kicking the driver and scratched his face, thinking I could stop him from driving.

How did everything come down to this? I was just enjoying my relaxing time earlier.

Relaxing on a sandy shore under the gentle sunlight filled my body with contentment and joy. After months of immersing myself in my profiling job, I finally had time to spend with myself and temporarily escape the reality of pending work after a month-long vacation.

I let out a relieved sigh and sipped on my fresh caña. Looking around, I saw people of different ages playing and splashing in the sun on the beach.

"This is life. Running and playing on the beach, not investigating and interrogating criminals in an office," I thought to myself.

Although I might seem to hate my job, it's my passion. There are times when my job can be draining and toxic, leading me to throw hate words at it. However, in the end, I always return to my beloved profiling job.

After some time watching the other beachgoers, I suddenly felt like a pair of eyes were watching me. I sensed someone staring at me from afar. Being a person with a strong gut feeling and curiosity, I looked around to see where those eyes were coming from.

From a distance, a set of eyes covered with sunglasses caught my attention.

It was a man. From his build, he seemed to be in his late 20s or early 30s. He was tall, maybe a 6-footer, with tan skin and blond hair – possibly a tourist. His blue cargo shorts complemented his body.

And his biceps? Oh boy, I wanted to be locked in a headlock with those.

My eyes lingered on his half-naked body. He had the physique of a model. Although I couldn't see his eyes due to the sunglasses, the uncovered half of his face was enough for me to say he was a good-looking man.

Unconsciously, I licked my drying lips while staring at him.

He was kind of far from where I was sitting. I smiled at him, unsure if he was really staring at me or if I was being delusional. My smile lasted for a few seconds, hoping he would smile back. However, he turned his back to me and started walking away.

Before my gaze left him, I saw him pull his phone from his pocket and make a call.

Disappointed, I gathered my things. Maybe it was better for me to head home now.

I put on my oversized maroon shirt and leather shorts. While finishing my drink, I started walking away from the shore, with thoughts of the unknown hot man still occupying my mind.

"Thirteen seventy-five is the total, miss," the cashier told me after scanning all the items I bought. As I reached for my purse, I felt someone standing behind me. Initially, I ignored it. However, after paying the cashier, I sensed the person behind me staring at me.
