As we entered the mansion, a welcoming party of maids and servants was there to greet me. It was a gesture of warmth and hospitality that surprised me.
"Hello, Mrs. Jeon, you're welcome to your mansion," one of the maids, who appeared to be in her mid-30s, said with a friendly smile.
"Thank you," I replied politely, acknowledging her welcome with a gracious nod.
Ju, baby, go to your room with Mary," Jungkook said, gesturing for the maid, Mary, to take Ju to his room. The little bunny eagerly wiggled out of his father's embrace and toddled over to Mary, giggling cutely as they left.
But just when I was admiring Ju's innocence, another "creature" came into the picture - a rather large Doberman dog. Panic seized me as I watched it approach, and I started trembling in fear. It wasn't that I hated dogs, but I had some childhood traumas that made them rather intimidating to me.
"No, please don't come this way, please," I silently pleaded, hoping it would change its course. But my prayers went unanswered as the dog began running in my direction.
Without thinking twice, I hugged Jungkook. It was an impulsive reaction; I wasn't thinking clearly. I buried my face in his muscular chest, seeking refuge. At first, he was taken aback, unsure of why I was hugging him so suddenly. It took him a good couple of minutes to grasp the situation, during which I screamed, "Noooo, keep him away!"
"Oh god, that dog looks scary!" I cried out, my voice muffled against his chest, as the scene turned into an unexpected .
She clung to me like a koala, burying her face in my chest, looking terrified, like a small kitten. I couldn't help but mentally scoff at how the seemingly wild cat a minute ago had transformed into a frightened little kitten.
I couldn't believe that she was scared of Bam, our Doberman. To me, he was as dear as Ju Won, an integral part of our home. It was a strange contrast to witness, the tough exterior she often displayed now giving way to vulnerability in the presence of our gentle giant of a dog.
"Bam, sit," I commanded our Doberman, wanting to ease the situation for her. She had been clinging to me so tightly that it seemed like she was struggling to breathe.
Bam obeyed my command and sat down, letting out an eager woof, his behavior more reminiscent of a playful puppy. It was easy to forget that despite his size, he was still just a six-month-old pup, his body growing faster than his demeanor.
I glanced down at her and noticed her cautiously peeking at Bam, still clinging to me like a scared kitten.
"You can move, Ashley. He won't bite you," I reassured her in a gentle voice, wanting to put her at ease. In reality, Bam was a gentle giant who had never bitten anyone before, and he was far from being a threat.
She looked up at me, a lone tear escaping from her eye, her trembling lips and sniffles making her appear like a cute, vulnerable child. For a moment, I found myself lost in that image, but I quickly realized the situation and gently moved her back. She too seemed to snap out of it, her attention returning to Bam as she realized the position we were in.
"Uhm, I'm quite scared of dogs, that's why I behaved like that," she explained, avoiding eye contact with me, her gaze fixed elsewhere. It was clear that her fear of dogs had triggered that unusual reaction, and she seemed somewhat embarrassed by it.
