So many thoughts whirled around in Lily's head as Blaise left. Many questions arose. Many times, she opened her mouth but before a word could get out, she closed it. When it came to Selene, there was no point asking.
If she wanted to tell, she would have done so unprompted.
Instead, the next time Lily opened her mouth, her tone had a lighthearted, teasing touch. "So how's it going with the men in your life?"
She was aware of Selene's sharp eyes on her, but she kept her back to the ice blonde, busying herself with doing the dishes.
"I have decided to take a break from dating."
A sudden huff of amusement left Lily as she whirled around to face her. "Dating? I'm sorry, when did you ever date? You're more of the..." Her voice trailed off and a coughing fit took over her at the absolutely withering look that tiny creature sent her.
Damn.
This is why you never judge a person by her appearance... or her height.
"My point is," Selene started indignantly. "They keep running away."
A wicked smile lurked on Lily's face. "I thought you were going to kidnap them?"
"With my size? I'd be better off kidnapping butterflies." Selene glanced away with a disdainful look in her cold blue eyes. "At least, they're pretty."
Blaise was positive he had been staring at the same page of his book for the last half an hour. A new day should come with new possibilities, new hopes and dreams, new worries and not the ones that followed him all the way from Lilithe's penthouse last night.
He was being ungrateful. He should be relieved she had decided to ask him, to confront him with her doubts about his intentions instead of disappearing from his life for weeks on end as she'd done before.
It was nothing.
He was just blowing things out of proportion, needlessly hurt when she didn't mean it. He was overreacting. He was being too sensitive.
It was just...
It was dumb. Her doubts were completely understandable. It was him. He was the one at fault.
You are not the problem.
Iclyn's cool voice rang through his head. It kept reverberating through every nook and cranny of his mind.
Frustrated, Blaise pinched the bridge of his nose. Fingers reached out to rest on his mildly throbbing temple.
A heavy sigh escaped him.
Lilithe just... doesn't believe in sincerity. Her words keep echoing. So... do not blame yourself.
Easier said than done.
