On December 23, 1990, Von Lester Taylor, 25 years old, and Edward Steven Deli, 21 years old, broke into a remote cabin nestled in the Utah mountains. Their intrusion took a tragic turn when the family who owned the cabin unexpectedly returned home, catching the intruders in the act.

Taylor and Deli responded by fatally shooting three members of the family: 71-year-old Beth Harmon Tidwell Potts, her 51-year-old daughter Kay Tidwell, and Kay's husband, 51-year-old Rolf Tidwell. Following this brutal act, they set the cabin ablaze and fled into the rugged mountain terrain.

Remarkably, Rolf Tidwell survived despite being shot in the face during the ordeal, but sadly, both Beth and Kay succumbed to their injuries. Adding to the disturbing nature of the crime, Taylor and Deli had recorded themselves joyfully opening the family's Christmas presents before their heinous actions were discovered.

Both men were apprehended and convicted of the murders; Von Lester Taylor received a death sentence, while Steven Deli was sentenced to life imprisonment.
