How was I supposed to know what would have happened to Vivi, one of my dearest friends? If only I had known... But as father always said, wishes don't feed you.
I was on holiday, quite 3 villages away from my town. My adoptive parents had supported Alynn, my friend, to her idea of going to her holiday house at Snowfield It was snowing there, as freezing as if I was living in a freezer. Alynn, however, was very energetic, running haywire, Alynn went around the house in seconds, passing by her not so surprised parents, who were used to her excitement bursts. I, on the other hand, had a very hard time trying to catch up with her, Was she trying to show me around or tire me out? I thought in exasperation. Alynn did not seem to take a hint when I flashed her my tired face, she, in fact thought that I was excited! She then, sped up, and I, reluctantly stopped following in her wake, unable to keep up.
I went to the guest room, to which Alynn had proudly announced that it was my room earlier, dumped my duffle bag and went to find Alynn and Ein, Alynn's brother. I found them in the living room, bickering as usual. "I told you to go and help me with my unpacking 'round the house!" "WHY SHOULD I? YOU CAN'T JUST BOSS ME AROUND EVEN IF YOUR MY BROTHER!" And they continued to bicker as I stood silently and the stairway. The situation soon got a bit out of hand, and I decided to infer. "Ein, you do know that you could have also asked me, right?" And, to my relieve, they stopped.
"Right then...umm...Ern thanks for your help, this way Ern." He then lead me to his room; he closed the door and mumbled "Can you help me with the stack of books over there? I can even lend you some books if you like them." I nodded and swiftly got to work. I suppose clearing bookings can be more interesting, given my bookworm personality. The entire time I was clearing out the books, I kept feeling Ein stare at me, occasionally, I turned around, but, Ein always turns away, never at one time did we catch each others gaze. Soon, after clearing the books, I placed it down softly, and spoke in my voice, to which Alynn had always told me was soothing, "Ein, why do you keep staring at me?" Ein, caught in the act red-handed, blushed, " Um...Sorry Ern, is it uncomfortable for you? I...Can stop staring...Sorry..." I stared at him in my peaceful expression (Alynn said it was peaceful), "Ein, I asked for the reason, not whether you can stop." Ein blushed even harder and told me softly that he couldn't help it.
"Why, if you can tell me Ein, why can't you help it?"
"Ern, I liked you since the day that I met you...I don't know how to say this but...Will you be my girlfriend?" I was stumped. Ein, being so tough, liked...me? I couldn't comprehend it. I nearly fainted in surprise, but Ein got me out of my dazed state by worriedly staring at me, clearly having a huge crush for me.
Then, I answered his question, so as to not make things awkward. " Sure Ein...I suppose we could try..."
