Well You Only Need the Light When it's Burning Low- Abhisha Drabble

"I don't like your friend." He mumbled. She raised a brow. "U don't have to. Vishal has been in my life longer than u, and.."
"And will be here long after I leave? Is that really what u think? That I shall leave u so easily?" He whispered brokenly.
"If people compel u to, then yes." She replied.
"Why wud I ever listen to such people?" He said, bewildered.
"When do u ever NOT listen to people?" She shot back.
The look he gave her was pure agony. "So you think that I'm a..."
"A pathological people pleaser? Yes." 
"Wow." He chuckled painfully. "So now it's come to this. I'm spineless, and HE isn't?"
She sighed. "He stood for me when you didn't. And the last time I checked, standing for someone like that DOES require a spine. Make of that what u will."
"I don't have to. It's clearly visible u love him."
She nodded. "Yes I do, he is my best friend."
He raised a brow. "Don't play that game with me, I can clearly see he likes u, and your words prove that u too..."
"JUST SHUT UP. Yes, I should ideally love him or someone like him who is constantly there for me. Unfortunately for me, feelings don't work that way and the heart wants what it wants and I couldn't love someone else other than you even if I wanted to, inspite of all your faults because for some reasons my heart always sees the good in yours even if it is the one getting trampled in the end. There. Happy?" She fired at him, bursting into tears.

In 2 quick strides, he was next to her, hugging the life out of her as he buried his face into her neck and lifted her petite figure slightly, letting her feet dangle in the air as his tears and fear of losing her finally came to the surface. He promised himself to never ever let this precious girl go, no matter who he had to fight against, even if it was the people of his own "professional community". "I love you so much. I'm so sorry. I will never,ever let you leave my side again." He whispered in a shaky voice even as the sobs and their emotions overwhelmed them both as they clung to each other for life.
