⋄∘∙♱⋄∘∙I AWOKE WITH A FEELING I HAD NEARLY FORGOTTEN—a warm caress on my face, gentle and inviting. For the first time in decades, I could feel the sun's warmth. It was as if the universe itself had conspired to grant me this precious moment. As I slowly blinked away the remnants of a long slumber, the room around me came into focus. The walls, adorned with faded wallpaper, seemed to sigh in relief as they soaked up the morning sunlight. Dust motes danced in the air, caught in the sun's embrace. I turned my head toward the window, drawn to the source of this newfound sensation. With great effort, I pushed myself up from the ancient mattress, its springs groaning in protest. My joints creaked, as if they, too, were awakening from a deep, unending sleep. The room spun for a moment, disorienting me, but I steadied myself against the nightstand.
I shuffled toward the window, my footsteps uncertain, my heart pounding in my chest. The curtains, heavy with age and neglect, hung in tattered shreds, offering only a hint of the world outside. I reached out with trembling fingers, hesitating for a moment before gathering my courage. With a swift motion, I pulled the tattered fabric aside. The sight that greeted me stole my breath away. The world outside was a masterpiece of color and life, a stark contrast to the desolation I had known for so long. The sky stretched out in a brilliant expanse of blue, a canvas upon which fluffy white clouds painted their delicate strokes. The sun, a radiant orb of golden light, bathed everything it touched in a warm, soothing embrace.
Tears welled up in my eyes as I drank in the beauty before me. The vibrant hues of flowers in full bloom, the swaying leaves of ancient trees, and the distant sounds of birdsong filled me with an overwhelming sense of wonder. It was as if I had been reborn into a world I had never truly known. For so long, I had been imprisoned in the darkness of my own making, confined to the shadows of a life I could barely remember. But now, as I stood bathed in the sun's gentle rays, I felt a spark of hope ignite within me. The world had not forgotten me, and there was still time to embrace the beauty of life.
With a deep breath, I stepped closer to the window, letting the sun's warmth wash over me. It was a sensation I had yearned for, a feeling that had eluded me for far too long. As I closed my eyes and tilted my face upward, I whispered a silent promise to myself—a promise to never take the simple joy of feeling the sun's warmth for granted again. Just as I was lost in the beauty of the sun's warmth, a familiar voice sliced through my thoughts. "Well, well, Lana," Damon drawled in a tone laced with sarcasm. "I see you've finally decided to join the land of the living. Or should I say, the land of the sun?"
Startled, I turned to find Damon leaning against the door frame, a crooked grin on his face. His dark hair was tousled, and his mischievous eyes sparkled with amusement. I couldn't help but roll my eyes at his teasing. "You make it sound like I've been hiding from the sun on purpose," I retorted, my voice a mixture of annoyance and affection.
Damon pushed himself off the door frame and sauntered over to me, his steps light and graceful. "Well, Lana," he said, his tone mockingly serious, "I hate to break it to you, but vampires went out of style a long time ago."
