laney's pov:
i was walking home alone which was rare ever since the kidnappings and brutal murderings started happening in los angeles, california. I started to feel to feel like someone was watching me, i was immediately on high alert. At first, i brushed it off as mere paranoia, the feeling only intensified. i caught glimpses of movement out of the corner of my eye, but whenever i turned to look, there would be no one there.i tried to shake off the feeling, telling myself that i was just being silly, but it was impossible to ignore the sense of unease that had settled in my bones. I began to feel like i as living in a nightmare, always looking over my shoulder, expecting to see someone lurking in the shadows.
as i was walking home from a date with eric i heard a faint whisper in my ear. "Laney, we've been waiting for you." The voice was low and husky, and it sent chills down my spine. i spun around, but there was no one there. i quickened my pace, my heart racing, but the voice followed her, always just out of earshot.
the closer i got to my house the more the voice stopped following me. with shaking hands i unlocked the door and quickly closed it behind me and locking it. i looked through my purse to find my phone as i started to dial, jaiden's number.
i pressed the call button and put my phone to my ear as i got up and started to walk around the windows; checking to see if anyone was outside my house. Jaidens phone went to voicemail as i silently cussed at myself. it was late at night; around 11:30 nearly 12 o'clock. it wouldn't be a surprise that she was passed out cold. The only other person that would be up at this hour would be my older brother but i don't think he would care much.
We never got along when we were kids, so it influinced our relationship as we got older. Keeping very little contact unless it had something to do with family. Hell, it was worth a shot. I dailed his number and waited for him to pick up as i pace around my house.
the phone was pciked up "hello?" my Brothers deep and raspy voice answered to me.
"Jace" my voice was shaky, so it was clear to my older brother that something had shaken me up.
"why are you calling me so late at night for?" Jace had yawned, maybe he was asleep; oops
" some guy has following me, when i was walking home from a date. I heard him whisper in my ear but when i turned around he wasn't there" i heard Jace sigh and the bed creaking; i assume that he was getting up from his bed.
"i'll be over in 10. Lock the window, doors and dont answer for anyone that isn't me. Also keep the lights off" Jace had hung up the phone after that. i clinched the phone in my hand as i let some tears slid down my cheeks. I got up and walked around checking the front and back door as well as the garage door. i checked the living room, bathroom, and the room's windows. they were all locked but i was still very freaked out.

I pulled into the driveway and killed the engine, the headlights of my car casting long shadows across the lawn. It was well after midnight, and I had just received a call from Laney, my younger sister, telling me that she was home alone and scared. I knew I had to get over there as soon as possible.
As I walked up the path to the front door, I could feel my heart racing. I had always been protective of Laney, ever since we were kids. She was the baby of the family, and I always felt like it was my job to look out for her. But i never knew how to tell her so i just pushed her away and protected her from a distance.
