I stared down as he lay there un-moving. "Nik...wake up." I said resting his head on my lap. "Nik.....please wake up!" I screamed. I heard Damon calling out to me saying something I couldn't understand over the roar of the fire. "I'm not leaving him!" I yelled as I cradled his head.

My body went numb as the heat from the flames around me and the calls from my comrades became a distant world. I couldn't hear his heart beat. The ripped the stake out of his chest and listened intently focusing what energy I had left on him. Nothing.

My  eyes stung and I stared down at the instrument that had taken away so much from me. My mind was made up. This is how the story ends.

"You die, I die." I whisper resting my forehead against his. "That was the deal." I picked up the stake and closed my eyes. "Alice no!" Damon shot towards me but bounced away from me like a rag doll. The magical dome prevented him from coming near me. "Goodbye Damon." I raised the stake and pressed my body forward to meet the bloody object half way.

Let me start at the beginning of our tired little tale. It all started with a phone call.

The sound of a phone ringing woke me from my deep sleep that night. I was entangled with Nik so I gently pulled away and slipping out of bed. I walked over to my phone which was charging on the other side of the room. "Hello?" I say as I answer the phone.

I glance at the time. It's 6a.m! Who the hell would wake me up this early? I glanced over to Nik to see him already stirring from his sleep with the absence of my body beside his. I sat down beside him in bed and he turned to face me starting to kiss my neck to persuade me to come back to bed.

"Alice! Thank God!" "Damon?" I asked immediately shaking off any drowsiness at the sound of my best friend's voice. I pushed Nik's face away and gave him a look. He growled so I got off the bed knowing my husband was quite persistent and wouldn't stop till I agreed to lay down with him again.

"We need your help Alice! The other side is falling apart!" Damon said fear in his voice. "Wait what?!" I said in a hushed whisper. The other side was the magical purgatory where supernatural beings were stuck until they were able to find peace. Similar to the idea of a midway point between heaven and hell.

"I'm already awake love." I gave Nik an apologetic look turning to see him sitting up in bed his eyes black with rage. He probably wanted to kill Damon for waking us up. I chuckled at the though of Klaus chasing after Damon.

"How is that even possible?" I asked Damon turning a light on. Focus at the task at hand. "The legend of Silas. Do you know it?" He asked desperately. I had never heard Damon sound this upset. "Yes....Damon what are you not telling me?" I asked confused.

"It's....it's nothing Alice." "No it isn't." I insisted. "I have, never in the hundreds of years I have known you, heard you talk with such desperation. What's wrong?" I demand. He was silent on the other end with nothing but his ragged breathe to be heard.

"Please....tell me." I beg. Nik growled again but I don't turn to look at him. I figured he'd be angry that Damon was making me so upset. "It's Stefan..." "What about Stefan?" I asked growing impatient. "He's dead."

The phone slipped out of my fingers and hit the carpeted floor. Stefan? My lovable best friend Stefan? He was dead? Tears brimmed in my eyes as my legs gave way and I sat on the bed. Nik picked the phone up for me and handed it to me kissing my cheek. He gave me an encouraging look.

"I know the legend of Silas." I say my voice shaking slightly as I spoke into the phone again. "Alice just come to Mystic Falls. I'll explain on your drive up but please. We need a strong witch and..."" I'll be there by morning. Fill me in then. Get some sleep you sound like hell." I hung up the phone and started to pack a duffle bag.
