A Cat

It always bothered me to see her sitting there all alone. She seemed lonely, lost in her thoughts. Every day, she'd order a cup of Triple-Shot Espresso, but somehow, she looked disappointed every time I served it. I couldn't help but wonder if I wasn't making it to her liking, but I was too nervous to ask. She always seemed too absorbed in her work to answer any of my questions, but if I ever had the chance, I would love to know what she was working on.

Ah, these scorching days. Is it even right to serve warm coffee in this heat? Maybe I should work on a summer menu, something like a sundae with lots of fruits would be a refreshing addition.

*Chime* *chime* *chime*

"Hi, what can I get... you..." She appears tired, her complexion a little off. I hesitated for a moment but decided to bring her a sundae; after all, it was something new I had been working on for a scorching hot day like today, not overly sweet, and I hope it might brighten her day.

I think I should bring her a sundae, but what if she doesn't like it? Let's just take it to her. "Can't you see this seat's tak...en..." Ah, I knew I shouldn't have done this. What if she decides to never come back? "Sorry, I thought it was a little too hot for coffee today. I'm sure you'd enjoy this. It's something new I've been working on, not too sweet either." She looked annoyed, she kept glaring at me, she looked like a cat; I might not walk out of this alive.

Her gaze felt like a glare, and I couldn't help but feel like a deer caught in headlights. "Thank you, I think this will be alright. Can you get me something to eat that goes well with it?" She said, and a feeling of relief washed over me. She thanked me. She thanked ME! I should bring her something savory, maybe a sandwich or a refreshing salad might be nice. What to serve, what to serve, *happy humming*.

I hope a sandwich is alright with her... As I looked up, I saw something I hadn't noticed before: a beautiful smile on her face. It was that smile that I wanted to see every time I served her. Now, I understood she had a sweet tooth. I couldn't help but smile to myself as I set her sandwich down.

Ew... Gross. What's wrong with him? Why is he smiling like an idiot all of a sudden? Did he hit his head somewhere on the way back? Looking at him intently, continues eating the sundae.

Why do I feel like she just thought I was gross? But I'm happy that I got to see that smile. She usually behaves like a cat that would bite you if you came too close, but she seemed to have mellowed down quite a bit during the past two weeks. I just have to make sure not to get too close; we still have ways to go before I could see more of that smile, I guess. Sighing as I walked away, with a mix of happiness and anticipation.

"What's up with him?" She muttered. "He smiles like an idiot one second then sighs like one the next. How will he ever find customers if he continues to behave like this? Well, why should I care? Oh, no, it's melting. Gotta finish this quick."
