Chapter 3
Sonja raced along the dark streets, without knowing where she was going, or why she suddenly had so much energy, as she had felt so damn exhausted only half an hour ago.
But somehow, her anger was like electricity, charging her body, urging her to move, even though she didn't really know what to do next.
"Where are we going? "Marx panted. "I don't know, I just want to find a spot where it's dark and quiet " suddenly Sonja noticed that her footsteps had automatically brought her to the edge of her favorite park, why hadn't she thought of it immediately, she could settle down on a bench under some trees and try to clear her head. "I think I want to stay here for a while to calm down, and then we can decide what we want to do next "Sonja suggested leading them to a bench under a clump of trees. "That's alright with me "Marx said, settling themself down with a groan.
Sonja took deep, calming breaths and smelled the fresh autumn air that smelled of grass, weed smoke and damp earth. She thought about what could be their next step, should they really go to Vera, just because Marx had a good feeling about it? Why should she take them in? After Sonja had tried to block every attempt at contact for nine years. Of course she had offered help as they had met in the library, but she was quite sure that the help they needed was not was Vera had meant. But what other options did they have? Maybe she knew a place where they could stay, if they couldn't stay at her home. But even if she helped them, Vera would undoubtedly ask Sonja a lot of questions, and talk to her about the past, and that was nothing she wanted to deal with right now.
"So what do you think we should do? Do you want to go to that Café with me?" Marx asked after some time they had spent in silence, each in their own thoughts. "You can do what you want, but I won't join you. There's a lot of stuff between my aunt and me I don't want to deal with right now" Sonja elaborated. "Can't you tell your aunt you just need help right now, and you don't want to talk about the past?" "No, before today we haven't had contact for nine years. I think she would grab any chance at talking to me about what has happened. "Did you break off contact because of a fight?" Marx asked hesitantly. "No, I just decided, I couldn't forgive her. And as I didn't need her help anymore, I blocked every possibility of contacting me." "Did she do anything bad to you? Is she abusive or anything?" "No she has always stood by my side, been my only ally. But as I was kicked out by my parents and their circle, she just didn't do or say anything. And she didn't even apologize afterwards as we met in Berlin, that's unforgivable for me." Sonja said, with an angry undertone. "I can understand that, why have you met them anyway?" "It was a coincidence, I met her in the library today because she works there." "And then she gave you that card because she wanted you to contact her?" Marx guessed. "Yes, probably. She also said, she would help me if I needed anything." "But why don't you take her up on her offer then? She clearly wants to be there for you, and you need help even if its just a place to stay overnight to get some distance." "I wasn't exactly friendly to her as we met today. I don't think she wants to help me after I pushed her away again and again, also this evening." Sonja said in a regretful voice "And besides, what if she still thinks that kicking me out was a good thing?" "I don't think she would have offered her help, if she was on the same side as your parents. Why did you get kicked out of your home anyway if I may ask?" Marx said in a calm voice. "Because I'm a lesbian and I couldn't be cured through any kind of magic. So they think my magic and my spirit is weak, and they don't want anybody with weak magic in the circle, because they're afraid it might affect their magic and their bloodline, if I nevertheless would decide to reproduce." "That's total bullshit!" Marx exclaimed.
Suddenly their expression changed from disbelief to fear, and they got up sniffing the air. "Sorry I have to go" Marx said in an undertone. "What?! Why? I thought we were just discussing something" "It's not safe here, don't you feel it?"
