Chapter 1
Phone in my hand, I smiled at the text from my best friend millie, she had been my best friend since the first day of school, and was the only person who had stuck by me after I came back from the hospital and officially became a social outcast at whitechapel High.
My smile quickly faded as I heard an unfamiliar voice behind me, I quickly typed in a reply, before clicking my phone off and shoving it into my jean pocket.
"Anddd you must be Scarlett!" greeted the unfamiliar women, smiling at me warmly
She had long flaxen blonde hair tied up in a tight ponytail, and green eyes concealed with pitch black eyeliner and mascara. She looked as though she was in her mid twenties.
"Oh yes," I replied, reaching out my hand to greet her, trying to be professional as possible.
It was my first day working at cineworld, and I must admit I hadn't expected to be so nervous.
"I'm Barbara, but everyone calls me Barbie," she smiled enthusiastically
"I'll be training you. First, you'll start by making pop-corn and hot dogs in the kitchen, but once you've gained some experience, you can start serving customers."
"Great, nice to meet you" I smiled back awkwardly.
Barbie wasn't the type of person I was expecting to be training me, instead of being the stereotypical middle-aged boss who hated everything and everyone. She was young, stylish, and had a warm smile that made you feel as if you'd known her for years.
As she led me into the kitchen the strong smell of pepperoni and cheese infiltrated my senses. I cringed at the overpowering smell, Barbie must have noticed as a grin crept up onto her face.
"You'll get used to it, i had the same reaction when I started here." she chuckled sympathetically
"I hope so." I replied smiling back at her, still a little nervous to be starting a new job.

A few hours later, after frantically running around the kitchen, learning how to make cheesy nachos, pepperoni bites, hot dogs and popcorn (which definitely did not include real butter), the cinema was almost ready to open.
"Okay, so your shift tonight will be 3 hours," started Barbie, flicking through her timetables
"You can have two bathroom breaks a night, and if you want to smoke, theres an area outside."
"Is it okay if I take a bathroom break now?" I replied
"Of course,"
"Just don't be too long, I want you to meet the boy you'll be working with!"
she shouted after me as I made my way to the bathroomAs I sat in the cubicle, I looked up at the advertisements on the door: 'love at first sight', 'love is in the air', 'she's all that'
I cringed at the cheesy titles, as I remembered how me and millie used to love binge-watching rom-coms all night, well before Isaac had happened and made me never want to love again.
I got up and made my way back through the door to the main entrance, I didn't want to think about Isaac tonight, or ever to be honest.
When I got back, I could see Barbie desperately filling up the slushie machine while checking the time on her watch.
"Michael's late again." she said shaking her head
'Michael' I thought
'he must be who Barbie had mentioned earlier.'
