Swamp In The Night

Chapter 2

The next morning Anniņa was walking from her workplace at the front desk of the newly renovated Kemeru watertower, to the swamp. She could not stop thinking about last night. She blushed and mumbled:

"I wish I could see him again...He was so sexy."

Meanwhile the Swamp Monster sat in his underground swamp cave, listening to Jungkook's new single - "Seven". His acoustic guitar stood in the corner. He couldn't wait to play it to her. He could not believe last night was real. He had been in love with Annina for so long... And she had finally seen him. He had always watched her from afar, always hiding, so she never saw who he was. He thought she would be scared, scream and run away from him - that would break his heart. But remembering last night made something in his heart jump with joy. She had kissed him... Accidentally, of course, but she had not ran away. And after that he had walked her home. Her absence was painful to him.

As Annina was walking towards the swamp, she started looking for Swamp Monster. She had abandoned all her defenses. The girl was a bundle of nerves.

She had met the SM here before - she just didn't know it.

5 years ago....

The SM had led a lonely life. It's not like there weren't other swamp monsters - he just didn't like their company and over the past years had withdrawn from most of the swamp monster society. They were too brutish, too aggressive for him. Well, that was how swamp monsters were supposed to be. But he never felt like he belonged with his kin. He had always hid it, but he knew he was soft inside and wanted just one thing...love.

On a dark night, just like the one 5 years later, when Annina would see him for the first time, he was watching the stars from the swamp. Stars were his one comfort. In a lonely world they gave the monster some hope. He didn't know yet this was the day he would see the love of his life for the first time. When the creature heard footsteps on the walkway, he was ready to dissapear. But he looked back. What he saw made him stop in his tracks.

The most gorgeous girl in the whole world stood on the walkway. She was watching the stars - just like he did.
He heard her sigh:

"You beautiful stars...I feel like you're my only friends in the whole world."

From that moment on she had caught him. The monster now felt like he wasn't in charge of his life - she was. How often he saw her, what she was doing, how she felt - all of it determined how his day would go.

He snapped back to reality. No use musing - god knows what she's thinking now after all of this. His playlist switched to Mitski's new album and he suddenly felt like crying. The man wrapped himself up in his swamp blanket and was about to sleep, when he heard something moving outside. He peeked outside. His heart nearly stopped. She was there...Just outside his home.
