SIA - Bird Set Free - "Clipped wings, I was a broken thing"
***
My body screams in pain as I run through the woods. One foot slapping the ground after another, each time stepping on rocks that dig into the soft flesh of my foot.
The howls coming from behind me are getting closer, I don't know how much longer my lungs can take this burning feeling. Each step feels like a thousand knives being stabbed in my joints and lungs, my heart feels like it will beat right out of my chest.
A mantra keeps playing in my head, "Go faster. Go faster. Go faster."
But slowly, my legs stop listening to the frantic thoughts as if they have a mind all their own. With my speed decreasing, panic starts to overtake my body.
Nearing a clearing, I skid to a stop before I run into the canyon wall. I try to climb up the wall, but the rocks cut deep into my hands and I'm forced to let go.
With my back pressed against the cool rock, seven men, no, Erasers, step into the light from the dense forest surroundings. Each one drooling and panting ready to attack me at my slightest movement...
I worriedly look at my surroundings looking for a way out, anyway out. I glance above me and can see the top of the canyon. And wish that I was up there instead of here.. I would give anything to be up there.
Seeing nothing that save me, I brace myself for the fight of my life. I step forward as the Erasers lunge at me....
My eyes snapped open, heart and head pounding, with a layer of sweat pouring off my body. I sit up slowing wiping the slick sweat off my forehead with the back of my hand. Finally being able to catch my breath, my body tensed realizing what just happened.
I jump out of my bed, covers tangled around me, into a defensive position. I scanned the room for any sign of Erasers when I realize it was just a dream.
Just the dream I've been having consistently ever since I escaped the school with my sister, and daughter.
Well, she's not my real daughter.
My sister and I take care of her like she's our daughter. Because really, she has nobody else that would step up and be her mother. It's not like we could just drop her off at some foster home, and try to give her a somewhat normal life. The School ruined any chance of that.
And my sister isn't really my sister either..
We've just been together for as long as I can remember. Never really letting anything come between us.. Well, except for some metal bars and plastic walls. Which sounds weird, but it makes sense seeing what we've been through.
We're not some plain Jane you see at school, or at church.
We are Hybrids, genetically engineered super-humans. It sounds kinda cool, but the process sucked.. Badly. 0/10, would not recommend.
We are called hybrids because of the experiments The School conducted on us. The School isn't like college or any school you are used to.. It's full of a bunch of scientists with a god complex who I'm assuming has nothing better to do than ruin innocent children's lives.
To give a little peak into what I'm talking about, let's discuss our genetics. The place, hell-hole, we lived in injected us with bird DNA when we were developing so we had genetic abnormalities.
Melody, the little beauty I call my daughter, has 96% human and 4% raven DNA, while my sister and I have 98% human and 2% hawk DNA. And no, we were not born this way baby. Those stupid scientists I mentioned earlier, messed with us while we were in the test tube. Yeah.. and you thought C-Section babies were weird.
