After taking a very much needed shower and putting on some clean clothes that weren't sweats, Y/N felt a bit better. However, she couldn't shake off the nervous feeling in the pit of her stomach.
Travis was here instead of back in Kansas City. And, he was here to talk about their feelings. Well, more specifically her feelings. Somehow he knew and although she wanted nothing more than for him to know at some point, she didn't know how things would turn out now that he was involved with someone else. She never wanted to be in the way of his happiness.
"Hey, baby girl," Y/N's mom smiled at her as she entered the kitchen. She was sitting at the small table with Travis. "So, I didn't make you the soup, but I did make both of y'all grilled cheese sandwiches to go."
"To go?" Y/N asked.
"Well, your mom said you need to eat. We need to talk. So, we're taking the sandwiches with us. Two birds with one stone, baby," he said.
Her stomach fluttered at the nickname. He had never called her that before and she liked it.
"Okay," Y/N nodded. "I'm ready whenever you are."
Y/N's mom gave them their sandwiches and a water bottle before they walked out the door.
The weather was perfect for a nice walk. The sun was out and there was a nice cool breeze, hinting the fall season is just around the corner. The leaves were starting to change their colors.
"Here," Travis handed her his sandwich. He had already opened and unwrapped the sandwich her mom made. "Eat."
"Travis-"
"Eat," he demanded. "Your mom told me you haven't been eating. So, eat."
She took his sandwich and gave him her wrapped sandwich. She took a couple of bites. "Happy?"
"Yes," he smiled as he unwrapped his sandwich. "I'll be happier if you finished the whole thing."
Y/N gave him a soft smile before it faltered at his question.
He finally got the courage and asked, "how long?"
"I guess since always," she interjected, knowing exactly what his question was going to be. She kept walking and looked straight ahead. She was too scared to see his reaction to her responses.
"When did you know...?" He trailed, almost as if he was scared to know the answer. But, he needed to know.
She stopped walking. She turned around and looked up at him. Her eyes began to well up. "How can you be so oblivious, Travis?"
"I don't know." Y/N noticed how sad Travis sounded
"Did you honestly not know?" She pressed on.
"No."
She sighed and crossed the street without waiting on him. Travis only took a few steps to catch up with her. She finished the last few bites of her sandwich before she continued the conversation, "Really? You never noticed why I never had any serious boyfriends? Barely dated? Always spent all my time with you? Why I never like any of the girls you dated?"
Travis let out a deep groan. "Well yeah, but I didn't think much of it." She flinched at his words, sending a sharp pain to her heart. "That's not what I meant, baby."
