"Alright, baby, I think I have everything," Travis walked up towards Y/N, who was waiting for him at the front door.
"You have your phone?" She asked.
Already in his hand, he showed it to her before putting it in his pocket. "Check."
"Your wallet?"
He padded the back of his black jeans. "Check."
"Headphones?"
"Check!" He padded the pocket on the inside of his jacket. His eyebrows furrowed when he felt that it was empty. He looked inside the pocket for confirmation. "Well, I thought I did."
She smiled at him knowingly. "You left them charging by our bed."
"Our bed," His lips formed a huge smile. He wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her in for a deep kiss. "I love the sound of that. I'm so happy you moved in with me."
"Thank you for asking me." She smiled back at him and cupped his cheek. She pecked his lips once more and said, "now go get your headphones. You don't want to miss the team bus and be late for training camp."
She smiled at him as he walked towards the stairs. She waited until he was out of sight and walking down the hallway. She knew he already had his AirPods packed in his jacket, which is why she snuck them out earlier and purposely put them back in their bedroom as a distraction.
When she heard him open their bedroom door, she immediately grabbed his duffle bag. She groaned, not thinking clearly how heavy it would be. She opened the coat closet and pushed it inside and quickly closed the door behind her. She walked back to where she was and waited for Travis to come back down.
"Uh, so weird," Travis said as he started walking down the stairs. "I could have sworn I already had them in my pocket this morning after charging them overnight."
"Maybe you just forgot," she shrugged innocently.
Travis eyebrows furrowed again as he noticed his duffle bag was gone. "Where's my bag?"
"Must be in the car because it wasn't here," Y/N lied.
He looked at her confused. "Yes, it was."
"Travis, there wasn't anything here with us," she bit her bottom lip, lying again.
Travis noticed she had bitten her bottom lip. About 3 months into dating Y/N, he learned that was her tell anytime she told a lie. She did it all the time when it came to her job. She loves her job, however, she wasn't exactly fond of her coworkers. She would lie about not being able to go to work parties and when her bosses asked if she could work events without pay to make an impression for the company.
He couldn't help but smirk as he put the pieces together. He knew he had his AirPods in his jacket pocket and he knew he left his duffle bag on the floor next to her in front of the door. He wasn't misplacing things. She didn't want him to go.
They started dating in the middle of his football season last year. And although she knew his football work schedule was ridiculously tight when it was football season, she had never experienced training camp at the start of football season. This would be the first time in their relationship they would be apart for so long.
"Baby girl," he spoke softly. He reached for her hand and tugged her towards him. "Are you purposely hiding my things so I won't leave for training camp?"
"Nooooo," she mumbled. "I'm hiding them to keep you here a little longer."
She lunged towards him, hugging him tight and burning her face in his chest."Oh, baby," Travis immediately wrapped his arms around her and hugged her tight. HIs heart broke when he heard her sniffling. He kissed her forehead as he tried to fight back tears of his own. "I know it's going to be hard not seeing you every day for almost three weeks but I'm going to tell you the same thing I've been telling myself every day this week. 'It'll fly by quick and before you know it, i'll be home with you again.'"
"I'm sorry," she sniffled. She pulled back to look at him. Travis brushed her fallen tears away.
"I know it's part of your job and I'm so happy you are letting me be a part of your life to see you do what you love to do most in the world. Not only that, but also to witness you to continue to be one of the best in the league and you're about to break all these records and-""Babygirl-" Travis tried to interrupt her to comfort her, but she ignored him and continued her rambling.
"I know it's only three weeks but it still doesn't make it easier. And, I know we'll Facetime whenever you can, but," she let out a sad sigh and looked up at him. Her eyes only welling up with more tears. "I can't help it. I'm going to miss you like crazy."
"Babygirl," he leaned down and pressed his forehead against hers. He whispered against her lips, "you're wrong about one thing..."
"Wrong about what...?" She whispered back.
"Football isn't what I love most in the world, it's you," he kissed her. It was soft yet passionate. The kiss deepened as his hands slowly made their way up, tracing the curves along her body. His hands slid into her hair, before pulling her head back to look at him. His voice was low as he spoke against her lips with words he promised to spend the rest of his life telling her. "You are what I love most in the world."
Y/N believed him with every fiber and bone in her body. She knew he was telling her the truth and she knew she could say the same about him. "I know this is going to sound cliche, but I meant it when I say I have never felt this way before. I love you, too, Travis, so much."
Travis's eyes were filled with tears now. He kissed her again. Unfortunately, not as long as their previous kiss. "I have to go."
Y/N sighed. "I know." She unraveled herself from Travis and walked to the coat closet. She opened the door. "This thing is heavier than a cow. I ain't carrying it again."
Travis chuckled. "That's alright, babygirl. I got this." He picked it up like it weighed nothing and slung it over his shoulder.
"Ooooooo," she cooed and wrapped her hand around his bicep. "Look at my big hunky man. Now, you go out there on that field and kick some ass!" She playfully slapped his butt. He chuckled as he shook his head.
"Wait!" She called out to him as he reached for the doorknob. She cupped his cheeks and looked at him. "I'm going to miss you."
"I'm going to miss you too, babygirl," he immediately said back.
"Oh, no. I was talking to the beard," she giggled as Travis's head rolled back and let out a big laugh. "I had to say goodbye to it before you shave tonight and El Travidor makes an appearance on your first day of practice tomorrow."
