"Wish I believed God were looking out for us right now, but I think we're on our own..." commented Leon as I inspected our new environment, curious.
After passing through the magnetic lock door beneath the altar, we had arrived in Simmons's laboratory... but it seemed like we were just at the beginning of our troubles.
All the doors in front of us seemed to be numbered, except that a good portion of the numbers had rusted. So, we had to both find the numbers and find a way to open them.
That's when I turned my head to the other side of the room and noticed a control panel, which I hurriedly accessed.
"I think this panel and the numbers on the doors are connected," Helena remarked as I pretended to think, using my deductive mind to guess the number of the large door separating us from the other part of the room.
"Theoretically, each number has its door," I whispered, carefully watching the numbers flash through my mind.
I scratched the back of my neck, lost in my thoughts, then entered the number 210 on the panel.
"Wow, I should do that more often," I congratulated myself before descending the stairs.
As we crossed to the other side and I took my place next to the other control panel, I frowned when I realized that the exercise was going to be slightly more complicated than the previous one.
The door we wanted to take was the one at the far right, next to the door we had just crossed.
"Nice security system. You just have to punch in the numbers on the doors." Helena complained as I shrugged in response. I started to look closely at the numbers on the doors again, skeptical.
Then, closed my eyes for a moment, taking a deep breath.
"Worst case scenario, just open all the doors," Helena suggested, but I shook my head, simply replying:
"This is way too simple for me to do that..."
"What if some doors kept the same number?" Leon suggested as I turned to him briefly, appreciating his suggestion.
I then entered the number 021 on the machine, and the back door opened. I let out a sigh of relief as we continued to the next room, watching Helena then starting to sprint towards the end. When we found her again, she was gazing at a chair.
"Wait... I remember this place...! Deborah must be close!" she exclaimed, and I blinked several times, trying to take a step back after taking a deep breath.
"Who?" Leon finally asked as Helena dashed down the adjacent corridor, leaving us in awe.
When we reached a laboratory and what appeared to be an examination table with a deceased person lying on it, she screamed in anguish, which led to even more questions.
By the time we finished searching the rest of the rooms, with the stress mounting, we ended up in a strange room with what seemed to be human experiments in tanks.
"What the hell is all this?" Leon asked as we continued to move forward, our weapons pointed at the tanks.
"None of these were here three days ago," she added as Leon quickly turned his head towards her, suspicious.
"This wasn't what I had in mind," I complained, almost bumping into Leon, who had stopped in his tracks.
Seemingly noticing something, he holstered his weapon and headed towards one of the screens, positioned at the back of the room.
