As I gradually made my way through the city, weaving between the sources of screams and the buildings crumbling from the flames, I finally caught sight of the place I was looking for in the distance.
I tried not to let my mind be cluttered with intrusive thoughts that could distract me, but despite my efforts, I couldn't help but feel this strange cramp in my chest.
I hope he's okay...
A distant cry yanked me back to reality. Tracking it through the haze, I found myself near a massive river, glowing red under flames and blood. Then, I saw a red silhouette dart across on a jet ski.
There's no doubt, it's her!
"Ada!" I shouted, as she didn't turn around, heading straight towards the end of the river.
I grimaced for a second as I stopped, realizing that I needed to find a means of transportation for myself, as my lungs were incapable of sustaining a sprint of several kilometers.
I started analyzing the surroundings, and when I finally found the object of my happiness, with the key right next to it, I started the engine, more than happy with my technological find.
As I started the engine, I heard my radio beep.
"Lucy, it's Wolf. Do you copy?"
"Copy. What's up?"
"I did the research you wanted, and... bingo: whether it's oil extraction sites, submarines, presumed locations in the heart of the city, or even a few ships, everything is connected to Simmons; The only hitch is that Carla Radames' name is on the property deeds, not his."
I sighed, trying to channel my thoughts even though the sea breeze was slapping me with scalpel-like, frozen blows right in the face.
"The two FOS agents are on Simmons' trail, I'm looking for this Carla. Thanks for the info," I concluded, clipping the radio to my belt as I saw that Ada had been waiting for me on her jet ski.

"Is Leon okay?" Ada finally asked me as I sat next to her in the helicopter, prompting me to stare at her for a moment.
And as the engine started, I finally replied, slightly shrill.
"Yeah, why?" I heard her sigh slightly, prompting me to complete my sentence in a lamentable attempt to justify myself in response to her reaction as I added, "I'm not going to stick to him all the time... Honestly..."
As the helicopter began to rise, I sank into my seat, contemplating the ship we had just left with more questions than answers.
There was no doubt that the woman who had injected herself with the virus was Carla, but I had failed in my mission; she was dead, and I had no evidence that could be credible enough to bring down an entire empire.
"I really can't figure out what's happening between you two. You bicker like two children, but are always together. How fascinating." She remarked as I blinked several times in response, letting out a sigh of discomfort as I straightened up.
As we began to fly over the city, I couldn't help but return to her remark, which had raised one of my suspicions.
"It's me who doesn't understand, Ada. He had feelings for you. If I hadn't been there, you could have..." I began to argue as she strangely fell silent, gazing at the flames under our feet while continuing to maneuver the helicopter we were in.
