"Are we there yet?"

Mimi Meep  was an interesting character. She was thoughtful, cold-hearted, and not the one who suffered fools gladly. So you can imagine her irritation when she discovered that she had to deal with two rather annoying people on this... expedition. These people, quite namely, are George and Elina Brooke.

"Are we there yet?" repeated Elina. Mimi turned to the insolent seven year-old and frowned. She still didn't understand why this midget had to come.  She tossed her dark brown bangs out of her eyes and cast a glance at her friend, Immy. Someone familiar, at least, she thought mildly. And sane...

Her friend was about the same height and age as her, and she possessed a similar shade of chocolate brown hair. Immy gave her an encouraging smile and only received a rather pessimistic collection of sighs in return. It was clear that no one, not even quiet George, was looking forward to this. Upon reaching the Hotel's doors, she reached into her pockets, and pulled out a pair of lockpicks. She began working on the lock.

George watched her with little interest. He was aware that his ginger hair must stand out like a red flame against the inky darkness and rain, and pulled his hat down further. Mentally, he was wondering the same question as Mimi - why did Elina have to come? He had told his mother  that it was just a field trip. but even he was beginning to have his doubts.

Suddenly, a clang rang out as the lock fell to the ground and Mimi rose. She discarded the broken lockpicks, nodded to them all and, for the first time in fifty years, opened the doors to the Hotel.
