It hadn't taken them long to choose an elevator to get into. And I only say that because all of the elevators look the same. Elina seemed quite delighted by the prospect of pressing buttons, and so when she questioned excitedly to Mimi which button she should press, Mimi motioned for her to pick any. Not like it matters anyways. Immy fought the urge to laugh. She knew from experience that Elina could be very obnoxious when she wanted to.
Ding!
The elevator doors slid open smoothly and they all walked out into a deserted lobby. Luggage lay neglected on the floor. Dust lined the checkout table and an old, rusty key was hung up on the wall behind it. A door was to the right of this, and was labelled 001. It was locked. They shouldn't have been surprised. Mimi hesitated, and began walking towards the old key.
"Don't tell me you think that's going to work," Immy said from behind her. Mimi didn't reply, but simply crawled under an empty luggage cart and grabbed the rather ancient looking key. Coming back the way she came, Mimi faced the first door. She then proceeded to thrust the key in the lock, and turned it. Miraculously, it opened. "See?" Mimi beamed proudly, and gestured for them to start walking. "Let's go."
Behind Door one lay Door two. Behind Door two lay Door three. This was getting awfully repetitive, and awfully boring. After Door 11, George broke the silence and asked a question.
"Um, how many doors are there?"
This made Mimi pause, her hand on the doorknob of Door twelve. "100," she replied quietly, and opened the next door. George gaped in horror at the prospect of having to bear another 88 more doors of this uncomfortable silence and was just about to retort back to this when the lights flickered.
Everyone froze, and a low, distorted, inhuman scream began to echo from the way that they had came. George yelled, "RUN!-", but Mimi grabbed the back of his jacket and hissed in his face - "Don't run, hide!"
Survival instincts kicking in, Immy raced to a closet and threw herself in, obeying her friend's orders. From outside, she heard the swinging of three more closets as the rest of them did the same, and the horrible screaming rushed past her, shattering all the lights as it went. Rather sickly, Immy forced herself out of her closet and peered through the darkness to face the others. An angry voice broke the tension.
"What, in the living hell, was that?"
