"Fuck, I got twenty-five."
"Ahah, history of Greek's palaces really isn't your cup of tea, Jungkook!"
"Oh shut up."
The teenager crumpled his paper, making a little ball, and stuffed it nonchalantly in his bag.
"Before making fun of me, tell me how much you got, genius!"
The young man beside him smiled proudly, showing his copy.
"I got fifty, mister."
Jungkook swore.
"You nearly pass! No need to be proud, Hoseok!"
"Yes, but, unlike you, I passed."
"Two answers! You just got two more correct answers than me!"
"The two answers of the victory!"
As his friend continued to mock him, Jungkook threw himself onto the first bench that came along and sprawled out. His friend soon joined him.
"I hope I'm not going to repeat the year..." he sighed.
"You still have some margin: I heard you can pass the year if you only failed one subject!"
"Thanks Hoseok, you're always very encouraging!"
He threw his head back, focusing his gaze on the sky. He ran his hand through his long brown hair and let the sun caress his snow-white skin. He was already in his second year of a history degree, and would soon be twenty, but he felt as if he had never done anything in his life. More than that, he felt... empty. As if something was missing.
"Is something wrong, Jungkook?"
He shook his head frantically.
"No, everything is fine! I have to get my act together, otherwise my worries will become reality!"
Hoseok took his phone out of his pocket and looked at it for a moment.
"Ah, Yeji's just gone out, she should be back soon."
Just then, a scream rang out in the backyard of the university, and they saw with despair that a girl their age was running towards them, screaming. Her long brown-ginger hair danced in the air, and she really could have been beautiful. But her hysterical shouting didn't work in her favor.
"Does she want to embarrass us?"
"I think that's precisely her intention."
She finally stopped in front of them with all eyes on her, so that Jungkook and Hoseok didn't know where to stand.
"How are you, guys?" Yeji said happily.
"Let's say we're fine..." sighed Jungkook.
"You're making faces, you look like you've just seen a super annoying person who only shouts when she sees you to make sure you're pissed off. I feel offended."
Hoseok stood up and punched her in the shoulder.
"You can be, stupid!"
Jungkook stood up in turn and threw his bag on his back.
"You're very kind, and I love you, but I'm starving, so hurry up or I'll leave without you!"
The two of them stopped bickering and set off after him, but their run came to a halt at the entrance to the canteen when Jungkook's phone started ringing.
"It's my mother... do you mind if I-"
"No, go ahead." Yeji cut him off. "We can wait five minutes."
He thanked them and picked up the phone.
