As morning aproached so did the realization that the barracks were going to be inspected at noon. Ivan sat up in bed quickly, accidentaly launching the tiny Beowulf that was asleep on his chest. Landing on the foot of the bed the beowulf wasn't phased and continued to sleep. Ivan looked up at the clock "0400" hours.
Ivan sighed with relief 8 hours before inspection. He slowly slid out of bed and walked over to the widow to check if the coast was clear before turning on the lights. Looking back to his bed the little beowulf looked different somehow but he couldn't put his finger on it. Ivan walked over to the bed and gently picked up his tiny companion. Getting a closer look didn't help either he was stumped. The beowulf was now wide awake and wagging its tail so Ivan sat it back on the bed. It hit Ivan like a ton of bricks he rubbed his eyes making sure he wasn't seeing things. Ivan stopped and thought to himself " was his fur always so snowy wasn't it black as coal when I brought him in when did it change why did it change." These thoughts floated in his head for a minute before he dismissed them for his own sanity.
Ivan moved around the room cleaning up the clothes that were scattered across the floor. Ivan mumbled to himself as he folded clothes and stuck them in various drawers "Tommorow is my free day to go into the village and and relax all I have to do is pass room inspection and im home free". A tiny howl across the room stopped him in his tracks.
He turns and face palmed . How was he's spose to hide a grimm from Captain Samuel. It was useless the captain was who took him in after his family abandoned him. Let him join the militia to protect the village and taught him how to fight. There was no way that he could get away with hiding his new friend somewhere dumb. Ivan paced around the room thinking of the options he had.
Under the bed nope to obvious ..in the drawers no those are inspected too . Ivan turned around and began to panic when he saw his little friend was no longer running circles on the bed. He dashed over to the bed and frantically looked around not seeing his friend he knelt down looking under his bed. Somthing on the other side of the bed made a rustling sound and on closer inspection he found the tiny beowulf burying itself in his duffle bag.
"You little geniuse why didnt I think of that Samuel does go through personal belongings" . Ivan softly pet his little friends head " good job buddy" he then looked out the window to see the light of the early morning sun just peeking over the ridge. Ivan adverted his attention to the clock ,"-0700 hours- the mess hall should be open by now I'll go get breakfast and snag some sausage or ham for you buddy" he pats the beowulfs head before leaving the room.
As Ivan steps out he locks the door behind him so that his little friend wouldnt have any in unexpected visitors that may raise and alarm or panic. It was a quick trip to the mess hall and nobody noticed him snag some extra sausage and eggs. On his way back it was mostly in eventful untill he returned to his barracks and noticed the door was ajar.
As he reached for the handle the door swung open and captain Samuel stood in the door way with a you thought you could hide smile on his face. At that moment Ivan died a little inside knowing he had been caught. Without thinking of the repercussions that may ensure ivan blurted out "where's the beowulf." With words as painful as white hot nails captain Samuel said that he had eliminated the potential threat.
Ivan was crushed by the words Samuel had told him he couldn't say anything his chest and head ached as if being crushed and burned at the same time. Suddenly the silence was broken by a stifled laugh coming from Samuel. The captain was red in the face and fighting the urge to burst into laughter. The cap on his head suddenly popped up and under neith were four little white paws that stood out against the captains black hair. Ivan pulled back and let loose a hard punch directly into Samuel's gut.
Samuel's hat launched itself over to Ivans head as the captain collapsed to the ground laughing at the utter hell that he could have caused. The beowulf poked its head out from under the hat and looked down at Samuel who was now short of breath.
"It's not funny you scared the living hell out of me you old bastard." Ivan yelled at Samuel for a few minutes before finally calming down. Ivan set his companion on the desk along with a plate of food which didn't last to long against the beowulfs appetite.
Samuel slowly stood up and took out a clip board. He then preceded to jot down note and put check in various places on the scoring sheet. Along with a billowing laugh Samuel looked over the results of ivans room inspection. Another perfect inspection Samuel said patting Ivan on the head Ivan looked at him like he had just told him that ursa could fly.
Samuel straightened up and gave him an item sanctions request for the village's weapon and armor blacksmith. This little peice of paper was all that Ivan need to find his very own Grimm slayer.
