There stood a small girl, barely seven, in a long and gloomy hallway. Tear stains racked on her cheeks, and her hand desperately clutched that of her brother's, who was no more but five years senior.
The girl could sniff the smell of death lingering around in the hospital. She could smell the strong medicines, which made her nose twitch. Somewhere, a couple of seats away from them, a woman was crying, and that made the girl want to cry out loud, too.
The girl looked at the door a couple of steps away from them, and then sobbed. Her face buried in her brother's chest, she didn't even register the words the doctor sympathetically said.
"You can visit her now, but.. you only have few minutes."
Her brother stood up, carrying her with him, as they entered the white room.
Monitors beeping, and needles struck in the frail woman, the girl dashed towards her.
"Mama!" She cried, clutching her mother's arm. The mother's eyes sweeped open, and a faint smile edged on her lips, as she looked at her children. She raised her other hand, with quite difficulty, and ran her fingers through her daughter's hair, and then looked at her first born.
"Take care of her." She croaked. The boy just stood there, his heart bleeding, as he gazed in his mother's eyes. "And take care of yourself. Promise me."
"I promise." He said, and then buried his face in his mother's chest.
The woman looked at her younger daughter, who was now peering at her with big, brown eyes.
"You won't be there to read me books anymore, will you?"
"No." The mother gently said, knowing that her time was soon to arrive. "But who said you cannot make your own fairytale? When I met your father, I knew that he was the one. And now, you'll find your one true soulmate too. You will." Her daughter cried, listening to her mother's words, and then nodded her head.
"I will." She gasped out from her crying. Her mother smiled.
"Both of you will."
