Darius released a surprise documentary on his life this past Friday which has been in the works for some years now. There were plans for him to promote the project earlier on but the news of the infidelity messed with the flow of things and it just would not have worked out the way he planned.
His management decided that it would be best for him to drop the documentary without promotion and it has been doing so amazing. People are already talking about awards and I am so proud of Darius for being candid with the world. It's never easy to share your feelings or speak your truth but he was able to do that in a tasteful manner.
"You recently released a documentary on your life titled The Rise of Darius Hunter which is trending number one globally." Darius smiles at Jimmy Kimmel. "It is one of the best documentaries that I have ever watched and I would recommend that everyone go watch it because it's so honest."
"Thank you." Darius bows his head in gratitude as I watch from the stands with a smile on my face.
"What was the filming process like for you?" Jimmy asks as he straightens up. "You mentioned the losses that you suffered in life and feeling ostracized in your community due to your rising fame."
"This documentary has been in the works for five years now." He reveals and eyes widen in surprise at the revelation. "The original timeline for the completion of the documentary was one year but with having a baby, being exposed to past traumas then having to address all of that... it took four years to make. I would say that the most work was put in during the last two years because that's when I could finally speak without choking up. It was difficult to film something like that and expose myself to the world knowing that there are people who pray on your downfall. The flip side is that I got to share my experiences as a first time father and how I balance parenthood while being in the NBA."
My husband pauses for several minutes as he processes some of the losses in his life and I feel my bottom lip tremble.
"I did not grow up in a poverty stricken home but that did not mean that we didn't have our struggles because we did. Making into the NBA as a teenager is always going to be a deal but I always knew that I would come back to help out the community that I grew up in." He clears his throat. "People did not want anything to do with me once I became this star player. I would love to still go back at some point but I had to stop when it became clear that I had enemies back home and I have heard about people dying all because they tried to help their people."
