When Hermês appeared within the Jackson family apartment, he almost fled. It reminded him too much of his May when the madness of the cursed oracle had not overtaken her. The woman—Sally—was bent over her kitchen counter with tears streaming down her face, a photo album at her side and a plethora of blue chocolate-chip cookies and tower of finger sandwiches.
(Finger sandwiches were not Lea's favorite food, but if she was here, then she could and would eat the entire tower by herself and half the cookies along with it.)
Since meeting Lea, he had not thought of his old lover, but he still ached for her, and her pain was his own. He thought of their boy, his Luke, and he kind of wanted to weep just as much as Sally Jackson. But he held to the hope that Luke would deviate from this path...that the murmurings from May about him saving Olympos would hold some weight even though he had his suspicions.
Hermês sighed, placing a comforting hand on the mother of his blessing. Sally Jackson startled, eyes widening and a small yelp sounding from her as she moved backwards. He said nothing, letting her gather herself as he took hold one of the cookies. He could not eat it for gods did not eat the food of mortals, but he needed something to distract himself with.
"Lord Hermês!"
He inclined his head, dragging the photo album to his side. Photography was a genius invention, and it went back to the days of the old with paintings and sculptures and engravings, but he rather like the photographs more. At least with proper skill, one could have them retouched whereas with paintings and sculptures it cannot be done lest the work was ruined. Looking over the photographs, he could understand his Uncle's words from last winter when he spoke of the change in Leaneíras. It was evident to see how the light in her eyes darkened over time until the spark no longer resided there.
"Your children are alive and well," he told her, noting how she sank with relief against the wall. "They are on the mend. Well, I know Perseus is. Lea is with her Father and he has denied all access to his realm, but her soul has not appeared on the banks of the Styx and Poseidón is not raging against the world, so it is safe to say she is still alive also." He would have mentioned that as long as her mark sat upon his skin, he would be able to tell, but since it had been blocked from him last winter—and he still wanted to know how— he could not find assurance in that.
"I—"
He looked up at her, giving the mortal a soft smile. "It is not much of a reassurance, I know, but it is all I have to offer." Όχι, he knew she would not find true peace until she set her eyes upon her children once more.
"And the police? They're camping out around the building."
That's right. He did remember something about the people that Lea called their extended family being doing their best to support her doing this time and even as they were also under scrutiny as the police felt that it was targeted attack. It had been only two years since the last time the twins had involved in a "kidnapping".
"We'll get it all under control," Hermês promised. No matter what how many of their little mortal laws he had to break.
