Chapter 2
Tina was excited all day. She rushed through the library busy as a bee making sure all her work was complete before the doors closed at 7:00. She made sure all the books will show and her part of the desk responsibilities were done and complete all by 5:00. Wow! One of her co-workers said to her all your work is done you usually leave it until we're gone and get it done but today it's all finished if I didn't know any better I think you had a date tonight. Tina smile I do have a date she said meekly.
Her coworker looked at her then snickered...Oh Tina you're so funny at first I thought you were serious. I know you don't have a date tonight but it would be nice to have one right? Tina looked at her not saying anything you got me pegged I guess it was a little joke I had lightly punching her on her bicep.
Tina's coworker walked off chuckling at her so-called joke but the joke was really on her because the most good looking man Tina ever saw was coming to take her someplace tonight she gad no idea where and honestly didn't care. Her mind was made up and was going as long as she was going with him. She had not had a date since she was 16 and now she was 30 she was more than excited that someone finally took interest in her and wanted to get to know her.
As usual Tina looked up at the clock it was 6:45 p.m her co-workers all huddled in a group as they headed towards the doors to leave her to lock up at night. Have a nice time guys Tina called out from behind the desk. However, her co-workers were so into themselves they didn't even hear her say have a good time. They walk through the double doors and then the second set of double doors locking the second set making sure it was Secure and Tina was inside safe and alone.
It was exactly 7:00 p.m. and still there was no harmful at the door Tina pays back and forth by her desk with no phone number to call, and no way to check on him she was at his mercy waiting. I will walk out this door at exactly 7:10 she reassured herself saying it over and over. You are better than someone being late she whispered to herself ringing her hands.
There was a loud tap at the front door Tina gazed upon the large analog clock 4 minutes after 7:00. She grinned walking to the door as fast as she could smoothing out her best dress. She opened the first set of oak doors smiling at him behind the set of exit glass doors. Tina unlocked the doors pushing it open inviting Harpo inside with a smile.
I'm so sorry he apologized passing her damp flowers he leaned in kissing her cheek a chill ran through Tina causing her to giggle. It's still raining? Tina looked outside. It just started again I was so upset to see rain I had something perfectly planned but I guess I'll have to do it someplace else.
Where would you do it? Tina asked we don't have to cancel do we Harpo? No, no of course not I ran all the way here and trust me I came from a long way. It's just I got a little delayed that's why I was 4 minutes late I'm so sorry again. You don't need to keep apologizing I'm just glad you made it here safe she rubbed his large bicep with her tiny hand reassuring him he was fine. Are we ready to go Tina? Oh she chuckled let me get the keys and my purse please. She handed him the large bouquet of mixed flowers walking quickly to grab her purse and keys from behind the front reception desk.
Tina turned off the master lights all the remaining lights in the library went completely off. It sure looks different in here at night he smiled at the light coming through the windows it's the shine of the moon Harpo whispered to her. Tina looked up you know all the years I've worked here I never noticed. I always thought it was the street lights that were making it so bright on the book stacks. No, it's the Moon look they walked over to the moonlight basking directly in it in the middle of the ornate Library marble floor. You look beautiful in glow of the moonlight Harpo whispered to Tina staring down in her beautiful brown eyes.
Don't tease Harpo please. Tease about what Tina? Tina looked down hiding her eyes from his soft gaze saying how beautiful my eyes are you don't have to lie to me I know I'm not all that pretty. Who told you you were not pretty Tina?
I've been told that all my life even by my own mother the only one who said that I was beautiful was my father. I think he met on the inside more so than the outside. Isn't that where it matters the most Tina? I could be wrong but what good is it if a woman is beautiful on the outside but the inside she is a monstrous creature? I have met many beautiful women in my time and I have to say there were many times the outside did not match the inside. And I've met women who are not beautiful on the outside but the inside glowed so much that it made me look at them different. Now in your case you have both beauty on the outside and the inside you just don't see it.
Tina placed her fingers on her cheek they were getting warm from her blushing at all his wonderful compliments. Thank you Harpo. There is no need to thank me Tina all I did was say what was true. She looked up in his eyes briefly and placed her arms around his neck she lay her head on his shoulders while he swayed her back and forth in the moonlight humming a tune in her ears she never heard before. What a lovely tune where did it come from? It was sung by my Mother to me as a child Tina.. I don't think I've heard it very often and I'd have to ask her what song it is I'm sure she told me at one point but I've forgotten over the years. Are you ready to go Tina? Harpo whispered in her right ear. Tina looked in his eyes briefly yes I'm ready she grinned. After you my dear Harpo extended his arm head bowed in front of her making her giggle as she walked past him toward the front door.
The couple exited the library walking up the block past the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. Here we are Tina. I love it here I'm always so busy at the library I never get to go I can smell the flowers through the library windows you know... at lunch time but I very rarely get away to come see the new varieties that they get every spring.
Right this way my dear Harpo pointed making her Snicker again. The couple walked talking low to their destination when they arrived Tina inhaled covering her mouth with both hands. Oh my, Harpo this is beautiful how did you do it? Tina waltzed in the glass greenhouse with a blanket stretched out on the greenhouse floor. Underneath the blanket was the most plush and greenest grass she'd ever seen. Flowers from all over the world covered the greenhouse walls ceilings and sprinkler piping.
Harpo stared in her eyes close your eyes I have a surprise for you. Tina closed her eyes open them! When she opened them the room was filled with fireflies. Tina walked in the middle of the greenhouse next to the blanket twirling in a circle as fireflies encompassed her from her feet all the way up to her head. Harpo took out a camera snapping photos of her as the fireflies lifted her dress lightly tickling her calves and knees.
Tina's giggling echoed through the beautifully decorated greenhouse making Harpo filled with happiness seeing her overjoyed. Are you ready to eat? He asked her as she ran through the greenhouse playing with the fireflies that chased behind her and led the way in front of her. Out of breath she came and fell on the blanket. I feel like a child she giggled kicking off her heels.
Sometimes it's good to get in touch with the child inside of us Tina don't you agree? I agree Harpo but I look silly in front of you. No you don't you look like a woman who is enjoying her life and having fun on her date what is wrong with that?
Why are you so worried about what the world thinks of you Tina? You don't need to be worried about that one day all of this will fade away and there will be nothing left but you and your memories do you really want them to be filled with what other people think of you?
You know what you are 100% correct. Harpo popped a bottle of champagne and dropped strawberries in each flute glass let's make a toast to us? Yes Harpo to us. Tina sipped the champagne wiggling her nose because the bubbles tickled her nostrils this is delicious what it?
I have a friend who makes the champagne very special for me it is called Ambrosia....
