The moment seemed to pass by slowly but nobody could mistake the burning look in the eyes of Jacqui, she was about to scream before the sounds of police sirens cut through and people began stampeding in several directions. Ken shoved me into the dirt before he fled in another direction and I could hear the thundering of footsteps against the grass coming in our direction. I got to my feet as quickly as I could and went the way I knew would lead to my house eventually but my shoes were sloppy, filled with urine and I was nearly blinded by the tears I didn't notice were streaming down my cheeks.
I ran as quickly as I could ignore every feeling and going completely numb until I came to the brightly lit house I knew as mine. Dad's car had disappeared rom the driveway but it was all for the best, seeing as I could never come across him in this state, it would raise too many questions.
I snatched the vans from my feet and threw them far into the neighbour's garden, hearing a hiss from the bad-tempered cat that resided there and ran into the house, feeling around for the silver spare keys, which I didn't find.
I didn't know what else to do but lie down on the lawn, getting blasted by the sprinklers which came on immediately, getting every muck washed off me but still feeling dirty and sick, I couldn't help the dread that settled over me in that moment.
There was a slight vibration in my pocket and I slipped out my phone foolishly, pressing the flashing pink envelope to open the text.
You are dead was all It took for fear to completely take over me.
It was like I was paralysed and glued to the lawn even as the grass made me itch and the temperature seemed to have dropped since I fled the festival. I was shivering madly, but still frozen to the spot and numb, dreading the hell I was going to be put through once I got to school on Monday.
However, It was not my fault and Ken had tried to help me, I just hoped that Jacqui would see reason.
My phone was not waterproof and only lasted five minutes switching on and off before finally switching off completely.
Lost in my thoughts, It wasn't until my stepfather was looking into my face did I notice that he had gotten back from wherever he went and there was a panicked tone to his voice, a grave and saddened look on his features while he shook me.
'' Olivia, get up quickly,'' He simply said making me stand up. Mark was a nice guy and he and my mother had fallen in love shortly after meeting online. It was ridiculous and she never listened to me once, so one day she strapped me into an airplane right next to her and we both flew down to Portsmouth, a fairly large town where all types of characters resided.
After a disastrous pizza night out and bowling mum still wasn't put off Mark and they had decided to take things more quickly than I expected as in eight months they tied the knot and I said goodbye to everything I had back in Caxton, the place I had lived nearly all my life.
Now looking into his worried face I couldn't help but gulp as my throat dried up instantly once I had registered the worried look in his eyes.
'' It's your mum, Olivia, she was in a car crash, they say she might not make It and I've been looking all over the place for you,'' He said with a shaky voice, making me dash towards the car no matter how soaked my clothes were.
