Come outside.
What? Are you outside my house right now?
I don't know, come outside and see.
No way–was Will really outside my house? I stared at my phone in disbelief before getting up from my bed, and walking out to the living room. My parents don't so much as look up as I walk outside onto the porch. Sure enough–Will is outside my house.
"Why are you all the way out here on the sidewalk?" I ask, stepping out off of the porch. "You could have walked up and knocked on the door like a normal person," I tease.
"Yeah, well," Will stumbles, awkwardly, "I uh, got you something."
Will and I aren't dating, per se, but we have been seeing a lot of each other recently. Everything about Will is awkward–but you know, in the cute boy next door kind of way. He's lean and lanky, with a mop of curly blonde hair and a crooked smile. Growing up, his family traveled around a lot, relocating the kids across the world more than one time. By age twelve, Will was more traveled than most, having lived on three different continents, in six different countries. I'm sure the lack of permanence is to blame for most of his social awkwardness.
"Oh really?" I ask, "what is it?"
He pulls a white paper bag out from behind his back.
"Is that..a sandwich?" I ask, laughing.
"Your favorite, obviously," Will smiles.
"You brought me my favorite sandwich?" I say suspiciously, but unable to hide my glee.
Will lets out a nervous laugh, "yeah, I uh," He hands me the bag, and scratches the back of his head, "you know, uh, prom is coming up soon, and–"
"Yes," I say immediately, holding the greasy sandwich bag, smiling, trying not to let out another laugh.
"Yes?" Will asks.
"Yes," I say, "Let's go."
