-pov change because its driving me crazy-
My eyes lingered on the seat beside Gaz, but when I began walking toward it, someone had sat down. I sigh as Gaz mouth sorry to me and slaps the guy beside him on the back of the head and gestures to me. "Oh shit sorry. Did you want to sit here?" The model looking man asks me. "Names Logan by the way." He smiles at me. "You're fine." I smile at him as I turn around to the man behind me that had tapped my shoulder. "You can sit beside me lass." I thank him as I sit beside him. He spoke with an accent, maybe Scottish or Irish. He was an interesting looking guy, noticed he was one of the shorter ones and he had a mohawk. It suited him though.
"Names Johnny, or you can call me soap. Whatever you'd prefer." His lips thinned as he smiled at my and reached out his hand.
"It's nice to meet you, I'm Ivery." I shake his hand.
Our conversation was cut short by Price.
"Alright everyone, listen up. We're going to split up into three teams." He explains as Ghost cuts in.
"I'll have team A, Price will lead B, and johnny will conduct team C."
Then price goes on to explain who the teams will consist of. I could only hope I'd be placed with Gaz.
"Team A will be Ghost and Ivery, Mace will be meeting us there to go with them. Team C will include Gaz, Kreuger, and Alex. Logan, Konig, and Horani will be on team C. Keegan, you'll be with some people from Mace's team."
Everyone shared looked and a few slightly high fived. I rub the hair out of my face, I couldn't have possibly gotten a worse team. I don't even know who this Mace guy is and i'm pretty sure Ghost hates me.
I stare at the floor as I watch a huge shadow and avert my eyes from it. As it passes I look up and my eyes are met with the back of Ghost's mask. He had bent down to grab something out of a bag.
"Here. put this on, you'll need it." His voice seemed flat and monotoned as he handed me gear. I waited until he was back in his seat before standing up to put it on. "How's it look?" I ask to no specific person, resulting in halfhearted catcalling from most of the guys beside Ghost and Price and an exaggerated eyeroll from Gaz.
A few minutes of friendly conversations and questions from the guys pursue before the plane lands and everyone stands up.
"I need a gu-" I'm cut off by Ghost shoving an assault riffle into my arms with a sharp stare.
" I give him a awkward smile as he jumps off the plane and Gaz reaches his hand to help me down. I stand by Ghost's side as a man who I can only assume is Mace approaches us. Everyone else seemed to have split off into a different direction after a quick couple of goodbyes and be safes are exchanges.
Both of the men that practically tower over me both turn to me briefly before we set off.
"Stay close to us and don't do anything stupid." Ghost says through a hushed tone as he leans into me. His words were harsh and cold. I wondered if he was always like this or just on missions.
The handle of a knife is shoved into the palm of my hand as we start walking into a town.
"Don't fire your gun unless you have to." Mace tells me with a stern voice. I nod my head understandingly at him. "so why the mask?" I ask Ghost through a whisper as I walk beside him. "Shut up. Are you an idiot? Have you never been on a mission before? They might hear you." His words made the back of my throat burn.
"I actually haven't been in the field in three years." I admit to him I wished I had never said anything to him at all.
"What? Are you serious? Why on earth would Laswell send someone like you out on a mission like this?"
I avoid my eyes from him as I ignore his words. I couldn't let them effect me right now. Not while on the mission.
My body hits Ghost's arm as he holds it out to stop me from moving forward.
"Over there" Mace points at an infected over by a police station. I'm shoved in between them as they move forward. I watch as he jabs his knife through the skull of it and Ghost guides its body down slowly so it doesn't fall and cause a bunch of noise. "Move in." Mace ushes Ghost and I into the building. "I'll check the perimeter." he says as he moves around the building and ghost and I make entry.
"I'll clear this side, you go that way." I suggested to Ghost which he obviously didn't like. "You don't make the call here. You're staying with me." He orders. I had obviously pissed him off to the extreme. We enter a room with a bunch of desk and find it empty. We move silently to the storage room and find it quiet. The last pace left was were the cells were, also empty and void of life. All the cell doors were open and the keys were tossed on the ground. "Wanna lock me up since I pissed you off?" I joke with him as he looked through a few papers that were laying scattered on a table. The door creaked open and started me making me drop the keys. Ghost hadn't bothered looking at Mace come in behind him. "Find anything?" I ask as I look up from grabbing the keys. My eyes meet his and a soul shattering scream leaves my body. his eyes were white and his arm had been torn open.
"Ghost move!" I screamed as I lunged forward knocking mace over and my knife landing in one of his eyes. I knelt on the floor breathing heavily as I compose myself. I look over at Ghost who's now bent over on his knees. I walk over to him and put my hand on his shoulder to make sure he's okay. His shoulder was wet to the touch and I could see blood seeping through it. I wasn't quick enough.
He raised his gun to his head as he shouted at me. "GET OUT OF HERE!" I rush over and knocked the gun from his hand, kicking his knife that was on the floor away from him as well. He sat there unmoving, just staring at me.
He was right, I shouldn't have been on this mission. I'm way too out of practice. Maybe someone else would have been quicker and could have saved him.
He broke his eyes away from me and stared at the floor but still not moving a muscle. I hurried and grabbed the cell keys and locked myself in a cell. I grabbed the radio on my vest and help the button in, "Someone please help me, I'm in the police station." I say through a shaking voice as I feel a hot tear fall down my face.
