A Letter To My Grandchild

Dear grandchild,
I know you miss me terribly,
And how much you wish I were here.
I know it hurts that I'm not near.

I know that you wish my time
Here on this earth was a bit longer,
To see you succeed in life,
But your ancestors were calling to me.

Even though I am no longer here with you,
Please know I am surrounding you, always.
I see how far you have come in your life
As I venture into mine.

Please don't cry tears of saddness;
Rather instead tears of joy and peace.
Know that I am no longer suffering;
And that I am much happier in this life.

I watch you every day with pride
Knowing that you are making me proud.
I know life is like an obstacle course,
So don't hit yourself too hard when failing.

You can't get anywhere without failure.
So instead, take a deep breath and try again.
I will be rooting for you from the sidelines
As you continue on with your journey.

Dear grandchild,
I know that life seems impossibe now,
And that one of your favorites can't be here
To hear you vent about life when you need the therapy.

To hear about whatever ails you in your day to day,
Or even on those special occasions.
To hear the achievements you've made;
Reguardless of how big or small.

To be able to call and say a simple "Hello",
Or come over and have a delightful conversation
About almost anything and everything;
To give a hug at the end as we say "Until next time".

Oh, the memories of watching you grow up,
A young and innocent mind full of imagination and laughter.
To see the games you would play
Either by yourself or with your cousins and siblings.

To watch you go through school and be the best you could.
I know it wasn't easy for you, but you did it;
And I am beyond so proud of you.
As well as your other grandparent.

I hope you are too,
You deserve to be.
No matter the date
Or the occassion.

When you miss me in moments of stillness
Or in the middle of a busy day when you can't stop;
Even for a moment despite wanting to,
Know I stand with you at all times.

And when things get too heavy,
Close your eyes and think of me.
In that moment I will be there,
To give you a hug that will feel like warmth on the inside.

I will whisper an affirmation that relates
To the ache you feel in your heart;
Letting my presence be known
That I am with you in a time of need.

Never be afraid to cry out for help
To those around you, Earth side or not.
I promise you someone will come to your aid,
Giving you the comfort you need.

Dear grandchild,
I love you so much, more than ever.
I will go to great ends to make sure you are taken care of;
And that you are heard.

I love you my baby.
Love, your dearest grandparent.
