Alexia had long been the attraction of many wanting females around the world. She had dealt with the attention relatively well, managing to remain somewhat private. That didn't stop people from scrutinising her love life.
When she met you in a crowded room at a wedding, she had all but given up on love. Relationships with teammates were too messy, often ending in having to be civil with people who had hurt her. Dating apps only led to screenshots being passed around the internet with captions saying you won't believe who I matched with.
The two of you immediately hit it off, spending the night sitting beside each other at a table in the middle of the room. The conversation had quickly turned from a friendly chat to something deeper and more meaningful.
It hadn't been easy. You didn't understand her separation between the person she was with you and the person she was in every other aspect of her life. You would spend her days off together, the two of you off somewhere secluded, unable to take your eyes off each other, like something from a rom-com.
Those days would end, though, and when Alexia returned to her club the following day, you couldn't escape the shipping comments from fans surrounding her and her teammates.
So many times you had been tired of it, threatening to walk away from the woman who couldn't tell you why she was hiding you away. Most of the time, she managed to talk you round by telling you I just want to enjoy my days with you, not them.
Eventually, that excuse wasn't washing with you anymore. Frankly, you felt like she was pulling the wool over your eyes. If she truly loved you like she said she did, then she would tell the people that mattered to her. What harm could it do?
Alexia had left for training at 9am the morning you decided you were done. You spent the first three hours trying to talk yourself out of messaging her. But then something snapped in your brain. So, you sent her a message telling her that you couldn't do this anymore. You cried and cried some more, until your eyes couldn't cry anymore tears, heart breaking at the thought of being without her.
To your surprise, she began to frantically call you, insisting she was coming over. When you told her that she had to train, she swatted that thought away, telling you that this was more important.
That afternoon was spent with Alexia pouring her heart out to you. She told you about the ugly parts of her life—the parts she had barely touched on until then. She told you about the comments that would be made about you—about how you look, how you speak, how you act, and how capable you were of loving her. She told you how the dates she had experienced with you were so much more intimate than previous dates because you two were the only people to know about them.
She didn't go back to training that day. She stayed with you, making sure that she held onto you as tightly as possible, fearing that if she left for even a moment, she wouldn't return to your presence again.
You expressed your feelings through music, you always did. So, it wasn't surprising that when Alexia reluctantly headed into work for her match the following day, you received a link to a song that you knew she had picked out especially, given your conversation the previous day.

Alexia

I think this describes how I feel best xThat song had spoken to your heart, and you found yourself smiling like an idiot in your living room as you listened along. Three months later, you two were still a secret, but when things got too much, you would settle yourself by placing your earphones into your ears and allowing that song to blast through them.
