Elias Kauro, a fine young man wakes up, excited for a new day. This day specifically because it was his birthday! He finally turned eighteen! Elias walks out of his room, his tail swaying excitedly behind him as he smells the breakfast he knows wasn't for him, but he likes to think it was.
His mother scowls at him as he prances out of his room and into the kitchen, she is disgusted by his presence, but she smiles... Elias knew this was a bad sign, his tail stopped swaying and his pointed, elf-like, ears lowered with anticipation of another yelling match or some sort of fight.
But Kathrine Kauro did something Elias hadn't expected from her, especially this early or this day.
She walked to Elias and placed her hand on his cheek lovingly, Elias was surprised and too stunned to respond. He knew what she was doing though, she was showing him affection so she could stun him and make sure he was not ready for an even bigger shock.
He soon knew what the "surprise" was when his older sister, Kristen, emerged from the hallway with a suitcase full of Elias's things.
Elias looked at his mother and sister with a shocked and hurt expression on his face.
"You can't kick me out!" He yelled with protest as his sister began to push him, and the suitcase, out of the house.
Despite his protest, Elias was now outside with the door slammed and locked in his face. He became teary-eyed as he stood there in the silence of the outdoors.
Elias took the suitcase in his hand and stepped down the three stone stairs that led to the house he grew up in. He started to think 'I'll show them! The next time those assholes see me, I'll be living better than they ever treated me!'
Elias, after walking a while, heard small footsteps behind him. They seemed to be trying to keep up with him. Elias turned to see who it was and was shocked to see his little brother, Parker. The small boy seemed scared of the taller one before him.
Elias smiled warmly at the blue-eyed boy and let go of the suitcase, opening his arms for a hug. Parker hugs Elias tightly, Elias smiles and hugs back.
"Why'd you follow me?" Elias asks Parker curiously.
"B'cause I didn't want you to be alone.." Parker responds softly, still hugging his older brother.
"That's very nice of you, but I would have been fine," Elias says gently, stroking his little brother's head.
"So? I still need you..." Parker says stubbornly.
Elias sighs and chuckles, "You lucky I love you, kid." ruffling Parker's hair.
"Hey!" Parker laughs.
"C'mon," Elias says and takes hold of the suitcase once more, dragging it behind him as his younger brother follows, not far behind.
After some time walking and talking, Elias bumped into someone who was on the phone.
"Sorry!" Elias says to the blue-haired, dark-skinned, boy.
"It's fine, I should be the one who's sorry." The boy responds.
The boy seems to end the call. Elias shakes his hand and smiles. They introduce each other, and Elias learns the boy's name is Asher.
Elias tells Asher his situation and he realizes that Asher is smaller than him, bigger than Parker, but smaller than Elias. Elias found this cute, along with how Asher would shift his weight from one foot to the other occasionally.
After telling his story, Asher finds sympathy and offers to share his home with Elias and his younger brother.
"You mean it?" Elias asks while Parker stands by silently, watching the conversation.
