Chapter 15
"Marshal, sir."
After hearing this address, Zhao Zhufu glanced slowly at Song Shi.
The latter coldly nodded but made no further move.
Zhao Zhufu paused for a moment before realizing that since they arrived in Vic, the young man hadn't uttered a word.
As they both sat in a hovercar, she spoke in a calm voice, "Is there anything uncomfortable?"
Song Shi didn't answer.
Zhao Zhufu raised an eyebrow and turned to the young man, extending her hand to touch his wrist gently. Unexpectedly, Song Shi shuddered at her light touch. His whole body trembled, and he seemed to instinctively want to move away from her touch. However, after a moment, he seemed to snap out of it and forced a smile, saying, "I apologize, Your Highness. I, I'm feeling a bit nervous."
"But...," he continued with a hint of confusion, "I don't know why I'm nervous. This place feels familiar, and that General Hert just now..."
Zhao Zhufu listened quietly to his words, her eyes fixed on his hand, which was now clenched tightly. After he finished speaking, she didn't respond verbally. Instead, she reached out and gently began to pry open Song Shi's tightly clenched fingers.
Unexpectedly, Song Shi's hand trembled slightly when she touched it. His whole body trembled, and he almost instinctively tried to move away from her touch. However, after a moment, he seemed to regain his composure and forced a smile, saying, "I apologize, Your Highness."
He hesitated for a few more seconds before adding, "I... I'm just a bit nervous."
"However," he said, sounding puzzled, "I don't know why I'm nervous. This place feels somewhat familiar, and that General Hert just now..."
Zhao Zhufu listened quietly to his words, her eyes fixed on his hand, which was still trembling. After he finished speaking, she didn't say anything. Instead, she reached out and gently began to pry open Song Shi's tightly clenched fingers.
"Princess Ninth."
The ruler of Vic, Lord Pei Yu, was a young Alpha just a few years older than Zhao Zhufu. In a sense, he could be considered an acquaintance from her past life.
In her previous life, the two of them had cooperated several times. Lord Pei Yu's army had helped her eliminate the Emperor's personal guards, while she had repeatedly saved him from dire situations.
However, even though they could be considered acquaintances, Zhao Zhufu couldn't help but feel...
They were not friends.
The saying goes, "Those who share the same path cannot become friends." Zhao Zhufu knew deep down that Pei Yu was an extremely cold and calculating person. He had never had eternal friends; he only had eternal interests. Just like now, he could casually smile in front of her, even though he had killed his own brothers as if it were nothing.
This was the first time they had met in this lifetime.
Thinking that it would be best to keep such meetings to a minimum in this lifetime, Zhao Zhufu maintained a polite smile as she greeted him with a bow. She then shook the hand offered by the tall, brown-haired Alpha. "Greetings, Your Majesty."
The brown-haired Alpha's smile remained cultured and polite as he briefly kissed her hand, then gracefully released it.
The young man sitting behind Zhao Zhufu, Song Shi, turned his head slightly to look at Pei Yu. He sat behind her, his grayish-blue eyes fixed on a distant corner without moving.
Unlike General Hert, who had clearly expressed surprise, Pei Yu raised an eyebrow slightly. "I am curious, Princess Ninth, do you like this gift or not? If you don't like it, why carry it with you all the time? If you do like it, why not mark it?"
Unlike General Hert, Pei Yu was an Alpha and could easily discern whether Song Shi carried Zhao Zhufu's pheromones.
Pei Yu paused for a moment, his smile taking on a hint of ambiguity. "Though it's just a plaything, both you and I are Alphas. Naturally, we know that even temporary markings can bring about entirely different sensations."
Zhao Zhufu paused for a moment and then smiled politely, saying, "I will consider your suggestion, Your Majesty."
Pei Yu chuckled lazily and leaned back in his seat, resting his chin on his hand. "Perhaps it's the constraints of the Andes Empire that limit you, Princess Ninth. Here in Vic, I hope you can fully enjoy yourself. After all, we don't have those mediocre Omega suppressants in Vic!"
As he spoke, the civil and military officials in the hall burst into laughter, as if he had just told an amusing yet harmless joke.
Zhao Zhufu maintained her polite smile as she scanned their faces one by one.
They appeared either solemn or eager, regardless of their expressions, she couldn't help but feel somewhat uncomfortable.
Not to mention the various subtle pheromones being emitted around her, which made her feel uneasy and restless, as if her territory was being invaded.
Most of the people she could see were either Alphas or Betas. In response to the monarch's jest, they laughed heartily, seemingly unaffected.
She paused for a few seconds, then turned her head to silently look at Song Shi, who sat behind her.
In response to the comment, Song Shi remained motionless, quietly like a statue.
The female Alpha raised an eyebrow, her expression and lips barely moving. "It seems like your previous work environment wasn't very good."
The black-haired Omega didn't react, but Zhao Zhufu quickly engaged in a lively conversation with Pei Yu. Both of them were skilled in socializing, and they created an atmosphere as if they had been longing to meet each other for a long time, almost to the point of toasting and celebrating.
Zhao Zhufu managed the conversation with Pei Yu while keeping an eye on Song Shi.
Song Shi didn't have much of an appetite tonight. He barely touched the delicacies in front of him, only eating a few bites.
Zhao Zhufu casually poured him some sweet wine, a Vic specialty with a unique flavor and low alcohol content that didn't cause inebriation easily. She watched as Song Shi hesitated for a moment, then took a small sip.
Unbeknownst to her, she continued to observe him as he drank the wine, and her mood inexplicably improved a little. She turned her attention back to her conversation with Pei Yu.
Suddenly, Pei Yu, on the other side, seemed to recall something and put down his wine glass with a meaningful smile. "It's about time."
Zhao Zhufu was taken aback. She had no idea what Pei Yu was referring to.
Then, in the next moment, the wine glass in Song Shi's hand slipped to the ground. The male Omega, now carrying a strong scent of cream, trembled and collapsed to the floor. He reached out, attempting to grab Zhao Zhufu's hand.
At the same time, an intense aroma of pheromones burst forth.
His face turned crimson, his mouth opened and closed, but he couldn't utter a word. The corners of his eyes were tinged with a blush, his entire body went limp, trembling and convulsing, struggling to breathe.
Zhao Zhufu's palms began to sweat as she squinted her eyes and calmly surveyed Song Shi, who was struggling to control himself. She then turned to Pei Yu and asked, "Your Majesty, what do you mean by this?"
"Don't be nervous, don't be nervous."
Pei Yu, on the other side, continued to wear a smile. He casually nodded at the wine glass in his hand and said, "This is just my chefs taking the initiative, adding something uplifting to our drinks. Rest assured, Princess Zhao Zhufu, these little things won't have any effect on us Alphas."
"But... for our esteemed Marshal Song Shi..."
The young emperor's tone rose as he stood up, towering over Zhao Zhufu and Song Shi. His deep black eyes seemed bottomless.
"Since Your Highness has brought him back to Vic, I wonder if you're willing to share this gift with Vic's soldiers?"
