Chapter 27
Zhao Zhufu found herself in total darkness.
She furrowed her brow, forcing herself to stay somewhat calm, and began to desperately think about what she had been doing before this.
Oh, she had finished washing up, and then, after confirming that Song Shi hadn't taken control of the body again, she bid goodnight to the other Song Shi with a hint of disappointment and went to bed.
And now, she was in a place where she couldn't see her hand in front of her face.
So, the most likely explanation right now was...
She was dreaming.
Having deduced this, Zhao Zhufu didn't seem to breathe a sigh of relief.
Instead, she looked around even harder, searching for anything unusual in this darkness.
After several unsuccessful attempts, Zhao Zhufu began to feel anxious for no apparent reason. She furrowed her brow, trying to speak out:
"Telemachus?"
Her AI companion was supposed to detect the activity in her brain, so even in a dream, as long as she called out to him...
No response.
The darkness remained thick and impenetrable, motionless.
Zhao Zhufu pursed her lips. She felt uneasy about the situation she couldn't control. She tried to take a step forward but stumbled over something, almost falling to the ground.
She silently took a deep breath and attempted to stand up again. Suddenly, a hand appeared in front of her.
"Can you stand up?"
It was Song Shi's voice.
Zhao Zhufu stared at the hand that seemed to appear out of nowhere, momentarily unsure how to respond.
Before she could react, a hearty voice chimed in, "Oh my, General, what are you doing?"
Zhao Zhufu slowly raised her head, and the darkness began to recede, revealing a lively scene like a bustling market around her.
Song Shi stood before her in a white military uniform, his black hair neatly combed backward. The other voice belonged to someone she recognized—General Herd.
However, compared to the male BETA she had met a few days ago, he appeared much younger. His curly brown hair was neatly arranged away from his ears. His face still bore a cheerful expression, and when he noticed her looking bewildered, he turned towards her and asked, "What's the matter, young lady? Are you having trouble keeping up with our Marshal?"
Zhao Zhufu was briefly stunned. She licked her lips and looked to her side, where Song Shi, with white gloves on his hands, still had his hand extended towards her as if trying to help her up.
She hesitated for a moment before reaching out her hand. The warmth from the palm of his hand, through the gloves, was comforting and strong.
With ease, the young man lifted her from the ground and quickly released her hand. He smiled gently and said, "Are you alright? Be careful where you step."
"...I'm fine," Zhao Zhufu replied with a forced smile, trying to appear as natural as possible. Song Shi didn't linger; after making sure she was okay, he left with General Herd, chatting and laughing.
Zhao Zhufu was left standing alone, and she finally realized something odd: Neither General Herd nor Song Shi seemed to recognize her.
Puzzled, she furrowed her brow and continued walking forward. However, the way her body leaned forward made her see the strands of hair that hung from her shoulder.
