Halloween had come and gone, leaving behind a trail of colorful memories and a chill in the autumn air. It was November, and the town of Northampton was bathed in the soft, muted tones of late fall. August had been looking forward to another opportunity to spend time with May, and she had the perfect plan in mind.

One evening, August approached May with a glimmer of excitement in her eyes. "Hey, May, my friend is hosting a Halloween-themed costume party this weekend. I was wondering if you'd like to come with me."

May's eyes lit up with enthusiasm. "That sounds like so much fun, August! I'd love to go. What's your costume?"

August grinned mischievously. "We're going as Coraline and the black cat from Coraline. What do you think?"

May's laughter filled the room. "That's perfect! I can't wait."

As the night of the party arrived, August and May put the finishing touches on their costumes. August donned Coraline's iconic blue sweater and yellow raincoat, while May transformed into the mysterious black cat, complete with sleek black attire and a cat mask.

The party was in full swing when they arrived, the air filled with laughter and the chatter of friends and strangers alike. The decorations were a playful mix of cobwebs, jack-o'-lanterns, and eerie music that set the Halloween mood.

August and May mingled with the other guests, taking in the creativity and diversity of costumes that surrounded them. They danced to spooky tunes, enjoyed Halloween-themed snacks, and even participated in a costume contest.

As the night wore on, the atmosphere grew more festive, and libations flowed freely. August and May found themselves sharing laughter and stories with newfound friends, their inhibitions slowly fading away.

As the hours passed and the party reached its peak, August felt a sense of exhilaration, a combination of the lively ambiance and the drinks she had consumed. She turned to May, her heart pounding, and blurted out, "May, there's something I need to tell you."

May, caught up in the revelry of the night, looked at August with a curious smile. "What is it, August?"

August took a deep breath, her words slightly slurred. "I...I really, really like you, May. Like, more than just a friend."

May's eyes widened with surprise, and she chuckled, thinking it was a playful jest. "Oh, August, you're such a sweet and fun friend too!"

August, unable to gauge May's response, simply nodded, her face flushed with both alcohol and embarrassment. "Yeah, yeah, that's what I meant. You're a great friend."

The night continued, filled with dancing, laughter, and revelry. The party stretched into the early hours of the morning, and as the sun began to rise, August and May decided it was time to head home.

The next day, May awoke with a pounding headache and a foggy memory of the previous night's events. She rubbed her temples, trying to recall the details of the party, but it was all a hazy blur.

As the day went on, August couldn't help but feel a mixture of relief and disappointment. She had confessed her feelings, but it seemed that the alcohol-induced confession had been lost in the mists of the night. She decided not to bring it up, not wanting to make things awkward between them.

Weeks turned into months, and their friendship continued to flourish. August cherished the bond they shared, even though her unspoken feelings remained hidden away. She had accepted that sometimes, confessions were meant to be fleeting, like a forgotten dream on a hangover morning.
