"Val! Valerie Winter, can you hear me?"

My best friend Wendy calls.
I shriek at the sound of my full name but I know she says it to get my attention.

"I'm coming, I'm coming. What's your rush anyway?"

I zip up my little pink mini dress and add my pearl earrings on.
Tonight we're headed to one of the most exclusive nightclubs in all of England, The Lovorno Cub.

"We've been waiting all week for this Val and now you're asking me what's the rush?"

Wendy says sarcastically. I chuckle at her as we leave our apartment and get in my car.
The night is cold since it is late January but it doesn't stop us from looking for a little fun and action.
She turns to me and asks me the question

"So what kind of guy are we looking for tonight?"

"We? We aren't looking for anyone. We happen to be newly single and happy with it"

"Valerie, you're single now. Get out there and live!"

"I don't know, it's only been two months... "

"two months is enough time. Don was a jerk. He wasn't good for you. Besides, he didn't even feel sorry when you caught him with that girl! Or should I say IN that girl "

"Oh Wen, I really don't need to hear about this right now"

I say pretending to be focused on the road but in reality, trying to avoid the conversation.
We stay silent until we arrive.
I know she's trying to encourage me to put myself out there but I'm just not up for it.
Even so, I play along for her sake.
The nightclub is eccentric and beautiful
There must be at least 500 people in the building.
Wendy and I made a plan to meet each other outside at 2 a.m. On the dot.
Already not having much fun, I head to the bar seeking some kind of company and to become a liquid extrovert.
When I sit there, I immediately have a few men come up to me, offering to buy my drink which I decline.
One man is obnoxiously drunk and practically hanging on me.

"Excuse me, sir"

"The name is Henry"

"Okay Henry, if you don't mind, you're in my way"

"No, I don't mind"

He says sarcastically, trying to flirt, instead of coming off as pushy and rude

"Well, I do"

"Someone needs to relax"

"I would like to be left alone"

"Let me buy you a drink"

"No thank you"

"Playing hard to get are we?"

I roll my eyes and just then a handsome stranger notices my uncomfortable position and interrupts

"She wants to be left alone."

"alright then"
