CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR
narrative!

the ride to olive's house from sebastian's took about 30 minutes. 2 minutes into the ride, olive started talking again.

"hi, vinnie!" she said quite loudly which startled the boy.

"jesus- hello, olive. are you feeling okay?" he briefly turned his head towards the girl to make sure she physically looked alright.

"i'm dandy." her words slurred indicating that she was still very drunk. "you know you're really pretty. like really pretty. like really, really, really, really-"

"thank you. you're pretty too."

"really?! just kidding i know i am." she giggled to herself. this made vinnie crack a smile.

"that's good." he said as they approached a red light.

"you wanna know something funny?" she turned to face him with a droopy grin on her face.

"i guess?"

"we went to high school together."

"what?" he said to the girl, but a green light illuminated on her face. he turned forward and started moving again.

"yes."

"are you serious?" he couldn't believe what he was hearing. there's no way he was so oblivious that he didn't notice olive.

"i'm so serious. you just never paid attention to me." she said bluntly, a smile still resting on her face.

"oh."

"there was this one day t-towards the end of senior year," she stuttered, "and you asked me for a pen. or a pencil? i forgot. just like you forgot me! that's funny." she said with a drunken grin.

vinnie tried to rack his memory to see if he remembered anything about the girl, but he didn't. and he felt so bad.

"i'm sorry." he said regretfully.

"you were too popular to notice us. oh yeah caroline and frankie went to our high school too. oh and seb." she informed him. vinnie's eyes widened almost comically.

"seb went to our school? i thought he's from-" he said incredulously.

"no. i'm just playing." she giggled once again. she looked out the window next to her, the street lights shining across her face as they passed.

she spoke again after a few minutes. "i had a crush on you actually." she turned her head back to the boy's direction. he met her eyes.

"really?"
