They were lead below ground, surrounded by sturdy stone walls that were being patrolled by armed men. Several winding hallways later, they were brought to wait in a room, a room bare of any furniture. "Are you sure about this?" Julian questioned, the mistrust evident in his tone, "The dark guild is one of the few places to which their influence does not extend. It would be easiest to start here," Oscar answered, his conviction seemed to assure the other of their choice.

He didn't join the conversation, opting instead to look around, essentially inspecting the room. His shoes clicked loudly against the floor as he scrutinised its structure. This information guild had remained mostly neutral so far, yet the evidence they had presently come to gather proved that the scales were now tipping; a daring move that would put the guild in a precarious situation should it ever be discovered.

The door creaked open, and Rome, the guild leader, stepped in clutching a file. The file was handed over to him, the implications of its contents obvious; a bunch of warehouse locations, and property rights were listed within, along with letters of correspondence, each piece of parchment bearing the ability to bring ruin to the Vaughns and their name.

"Why did you change your thoughts? I assume you are aware of the consequences should you go through with this?" he questioned, Rome's actions displayed clear support to his own clan, yet, at a time where even nobility was divided, it needed to be made clear were one's loyalties laid.

Rome shook his head, sighing. He went to take a step back, but stopped upon seeing Julian and Oscar blocking the only exit, he sighed again and fixed his gaze on the ground.

"While I had been aware of the humans gone missing as of late, I had thought they were taken to feed upon," Rome started with a frown; at the mention of the recent reports of vanishing commoners, he felt discomfort, an uneasiness that could not be named.

"They have a witch, My Lord. Someone who knows the forbidden arts – they're doing something with those humans. The human mates, though I do not know how exactly they discovered such methods."

This was precisely why slavery was banned.

Contrary to popular beliefs, human mates aren't uncommon, it is simply not that widely known due to them being turned. Most humans would be turned before any other mating rituals take place because of the traditionalist elders believing in pure-blooded descendants, so it is not very astounding that it is not well known. Banned does not necessarily mean it doesn't happen still, those who voted for the prohibition themselves have been caught having association with such organisations, majority being the elders and part of the aristocrat faction.

"We must make haste, My Lord, before the innocent are further tormented. Moreover, once the truth comes to light, His Majesty shall be obliged to hold a prosecution," Oscar urged. "The remaining aristocrats and elders would not continue to support the Vaughns, not when their misdeeds are known to the public," Julian nodded in agreement.

"We shall take our leave then, your assistance is appreciated and shall be remembered," he said, finally breaking his silence, and nodded in farewell, Rome returned the gesture, "My Lord," he called just as they reached the threshold, "You shall make a wiser king than he ever would."
