chapter 19, Lack of appetite, fatigue, and low energy...what kind of illness is this?
The next morning, Xia Chuan wouldn't get out of bed even though the sun was already high above the sky. On one hand, it was because his body felt completely smashed and exhausted, but on the other, the shameful memories from last night were also vividly imprinted on his mind, making him so embarrassed that he hid his head under the covers the whole time. Jiang Xuehang held him and comforted him like a child for quite a while before he was pushed away by a blushing Xia Chuan, who then got off to take a shower and eat.
Those two knew they overdid it last night, so they didn't touch him again for the coming days. But as soon as they were alone, they would take the opportunity to kiss and hold him for a little. The two of them would even push him against the wall together and nip at his neck with heavy breaths. Sometimes, his parents would only be a few steps away in the living room. They would be able to see them if they so much as turned their heads around, and this scared Xia Chuan senseless. He threw many tantrums with Su Ming and Jiang Xuehang because of this, but the two just laughed as they watched him and still felt no remorse.
Under Mother Xia's strong urging, Xia Chuan ended up bringing them to W city for some sightseeing. Once, he even dragged Xia Xi along, and the three of them ended up getting pictures of them taken by her secretly. Without mercy, Xia Chuan deleted all the photos in her album and stuffed her into a taxi back home.
Compared to swimming in the mountains or going out shopping and watching movies, Xia Chuan preferred playing games. He and Su Ming were around the same level, but Jiang Xuehang was way worse than them. Even though he was smart, Jiang Xuehang was clearly without help when it came to how handicapped his hands were in gaming, allowing Xia Chuan to fully enjoy the pleasures of stomping a noob.
Su Ming stayed at Xia Chuan's house for over a week, but he had to go because something came up at home. Jiang Xuehang stayed a couple days longer, spending the whole day sticking to Xia Chuan. It almost felt to Xia Chuan as if he was raising a young wife.
Once both of them were gone, he could finally enjoy his hard-won days of peace and quiet, but he ended up feeling that the house was too quiet instead. Mom and dad were out working while Xia Xi was studying, so he spent the whole day alone. He had no idea if the weather was just hot or if it was the sunlight flickering outside the curtains, but he kept feeling drowsy. He even lost his appetite for food. Not only did he find it hard to stomach anything, he even felt the constant need to throw up, and even vomited several times a day sometimes.
Mother Xia noticed that something was off with how dispirited he looked, so she checked his temperature. He did have a slight fever.
"Losing your appetite and feeling tired all the time...it's summer sickness!" Traditional Chinese medicine is one of Mother Xia's hobbies, and she would also help solve the pains and ailments of the two siblings.
Since Xia Chuan refused to go to the hospital no matter what, and since summer sickness wasn't really even a disease, Mother Xia took out two bottles of vitamin C and vitamin B from the medicine box and told him to take some each day. Xia Chuan who was always physically strong would usually recover from these petty ailments just by sleeping it off, but this troubled him for quite a long time.
He figured he would get better after the summer.
He spent his entire summer vacation weary and his slight fever that never subsided throughout this entire period gave him a small sense of anxiety. Xia Chuan felt troubled and tried his best to think about happy things, but as soon as his thoughts left reality, it would inevitably drift to those three from the dorm.
The deep light flowing in Su Ming's dark eyes, that bashful, refined smile that was special to Jiang Xuehang, and also Shang Yuzhong's cold, disdainful gaze. Around and around these images turned in his head, giving him even more of a headache.
God have mercy! He's straight! He should be thinking about his Goddess Nozomi Aso, or Big Sister Akiho Yoshizawa if he was feeling down, why are there constantly a bunch of men stuck inside his head?!
Xia Chuan cradled his head and fell deep into a state of existential crisis.
The temperature in W City was washed away by several torrential rainstorms, dropping the temperature by ten degrees, making it feel as if autumn had come early. But as soon as September came, the summer heat made a comeback, and all the cities down in the middle and lower region of the Yangtze River were all suffering from high fevers. C City was no exception.
Even though he checked the weather in advance, the scorching sun hanging overhead still made him dizzy when he got off the plane. And, coupled with the traffic jam he encountered on the road back to school, the constant braking in between the trip churned his guts each time. But he just couldn't vomit it all out like he hoped. It was a long trip back to school and Xia Chuan was completely wasted during the trip. He just barely managed to drag his luggage up to the sixth floor, and just as he was leaning by the door to get his keys, he felt the need to throw up again. He quickly unlocked the door, held his stomach, and rushed into the room. Without even a care for the happy looks in his roommates' eyes or the greetings, he rushed through the bathroom door and began retching violently.
He barely ate anything that day, so most of what he vomited out was just bile. His throat was burning and his eyes were covered in tears from the discomfort.
"Xia Chuan, what's wrong?" Jiang Xuehang watched the scene nervously. He patted Xia Chuan's back to help ease him a little while his delicate brows frowned in distress.
Su Ming stood in front of the bathroom door, taking the sight of his discomfort in his gaze. Almost like a spark, an unbelievable guessed popped up in his mind. Even though it was just a budding delusion, he couldn't control his excitement, and the blood inside of his body was surging. He watched Jiang Xuehang help Xia Chuan out and quickly shot him a look.
Jiang Xuehang was a smart guy, so he managed to decode what Su Ming was thinking with just that meaningful glance alone.
They came inside of him so many times. Xia Chuan might be pregnant with their child...
Just by thinking about it caused his breath to turn rough, and the hand he had supporting Xia Chuan's side also clenched abruptly.
Xia Chuan had just finished vomiting and washed his face in front of the sink. He felt completely drained, so naturally, he didn't notice anything off with the two of them.
Shang Yuzhong leaned against the sink and looked at Xia Chuan's weak appearance. The hair on his forehead was dripping wet and stuck pitifully on his brows. His current fragile appearance was so different from his usual that it tugged at his heartstrings. "What the hell happened to you? Was it the car or the plane?" Then, he suddenly felt troubled. He reached out to grab Xia Chuan's chin and forced him to look at him.
"Don't touch him!" Jiang Xuehang swatted off Shang Yuzhong's hand immediately, making a loud noise.
That stung Shang Yuzhong's hand, and he retracted it subconsciously. Then, his face sank. A striking coldness began to emerge in his slightly upturned peach blossom eyes. His intuition caught onto the atmosphere surrounding Su Ming, Jiang Xuehang, and Xia Chuan. Something must have happened during the holiday. He hadn't forgotten about Xia Chuan sneaking home as soon as class was over. He wanted to give him a "good lesson" before class started, but the two of them were guarding him even closer than before.
The temperature in the dorm plummeted to a freezing point. Jiang Xuehang and Shang Yuzhong were standing face to face, seeming as if they were about to clash. Xia Chuan had been feeling terrible to begin with, so now his head felt as if it was about to crack. "Go outside if you're going to fight, don't interfere with my sleep!" Then, he wiped his face with his T-shirt and quickly went to his own spot, taking a few gulps of water, and getting into bed. In an instant, he became as still as a dead dog.
Su Ming followed him over as well and sat by Xia Chuan's headboard, reaching out to check his forehead. It wasn't too hot, but it did feel a little feverish. He helped him cover up with a cooling blanket, and, seemingly unintentionally, Su Ming's eyes swept over the corner of Xia Chuan's T-shirt that was flipped up from his earlier movements. It was just enough to reveal his firm abdomen that was flat, and even had some not-too-exaggerated lines of muscles.
Is...it really possible for this to bear a child?
Su Ming's lips curved up faintly, and his heart was beating so fast it could almost leap out of his chest.
