Chapter 1

~Lloyd's POV~

I dodged Zane's shurikens as I attempted to defeat my opponents. I channeled a ball of green energy and hurled it at Kai. He deftly avoided it, and it struck the wall of the Destiny's Bounty's training room, leaving a huge crack. The four ninjas and I were aboard a giant flying vessel since the monastery, their home, had been destroyed in a fight against Garmadon.

"This is why I should have become the Green Ninja," he teased. I rolled my eyes and flung another ball of uncontrollable energy at him. I ducked carefully to evade Jay's electricity, and the lightning hit the other side of the room, scorching the wall and leaving huge black marks.

Kai summoned a small flame in his palm and sent it toward me. I quickly dodged the ember, and it hit the adjacent wall of the training room, causing it to burst into flames. Kai stepped away from the wall as Jay ran to the opposite side of the room. Zane stepped in front of me, shielding me from the flames. He shot ice from his fingertips and put out the fire. The ice slowly melted, leaving a puddle.

I turned towards the door, running into a figure I recognized as Nya, Kai's little sister, who was around my age. She snatched several towels from Kai's extended arms and handed them to the other ninja.

"You caused a mess! I want this room looking brand new by dinner," she commanded the other ninja as Kai rolled his eyes and began wiping the melted ice on the floor. She smiled softly at me as her blue, misty eyes creased along the edges of her coal-black lashes. I reddened upon her lingering gaze, and Jay began to fume and steam. She hardened her gaze, turning to the other ninja.

"You shouldn't have used your powers," she started, "you should be helping Lloyd grow and not use all of your might against him. You could have hurt him."

"Well, I'm sorry, but we have to train too. We can't just be helping Lloyd grow when we have to use our powers to get better than Samurai X." Cole retorted, "Besides, we live in Ninjago City, not Samurai X City."

"Then maybe you should let me train with him," Nya resolved.

"No!" the ninja chorused all at once in a heartbeat.

"You could get hurt, Nya," Kai said, "and besides, the only way you could ever defeat someone is by batting your eyelashes. I'm pretty sure we don't want Lloyd doing that on the battlefield." Jay exploded into laughter until he noticed Nya's glare upon him and repressed his laughs by coughing.

"Just because I don't have elemental powers doesn't mean I can't fight," Nya snapped back.

"I think we ought to give Nya a chance with Lloyd, and we can train by ourselves," Jay said.

"Thank you, Jay, but I don't need your support," Nya snarled. I chuckled to myself, which only made Jay angrier.

"I agree with Jay, though," Cole declared, "we should practice so that we can get better than that stuck-up Samurai."

"Yes," Zane echoes in his mechanical voice, "Or else Ninjago may be renamed Samurai City." Kai saw that the other ninja had him outnumbered, heaved a sigh, and said, "Alright, Nya, you can train with Lloyd. Lloyd, go easy on her, though."

I followed Nya out of the training room, glancing back just in time to see Jay's indignant face glowering back at me. I picked up a quicker pace and scampered behind Nya to avoid Jay's fury.

"We're heading to my room," Nya said as we walked down the narrow hallway.

"What? I wouldn't want to destroy your room like I wrecked the training room," I explained. Nya sighed.
