Will's POV
I sat on the warm earth, listening to the rush of water from the shimmering river, its icy water playfully splashing me. Nature sang in a symphony of excited birds and bugs. Dappled in pure greenish sunlight, mossy greenery spread wildly around me, engulfing my surroundings, seemingly in an attempt to shield and protect its forest. The smell of dampened nature complely overtook me. I leaned on a cool, short tree, cushioned by a thick layer of cold, damp moss. I was fully stolen by my book.
I check the time. 5 pm - already? I find my bookmark, slotting it back into my book and shutting it with a satisfying thud. I begin my journey back home, dodging and weaving through thick, thorny bushes that clung onto my clothes and wrapped around my legs, craving my attention as i attempt to escape their tireless grasp. I attempted to run, but just ended up stumbling clumsily through the windy nettle-infected path. Shit! I checked my phone, realising I was already quite late home. I needed to go fast.
Forrest's POV
The gentle wind ran through my hair as I leapt from leaf to leaf, my heart raced and pulsed into my arms and legs as I heard Berry catching up to me. As I began to tightrope walk a thorn bus, I felt somebody touch my neck.
"Gotcha!" Berry laughed, weighing the bramble down as she sat on it.
"How are you so good at thiss?" I goaned, between heavy breaths. She signalled me to sit with her.
"I'm just clearly the better twin," she joked, ruffling up my hair. I sat still for a couples seconds before jumping to my feet.
"No way! Tag!" I sprinted off, parkouring my way through the tangled green thorns.
"Wait! Don't go that ways, theres-"
"Na na na na! I can't hear youu!"
I jumped up, grabbing onto a leaf and heaving myself up. I felt my hand slip. FUCK. For a brief moment, I watched as the leaf began to get smaller and smaller from my view, until thud. I landed on a damp moss pile, completely winded. I lay there for a couple seconds, regainiong my breath and trying to process what just happened.
"Berry!?" I sit up, looking around me. Berry was nowhere to be seen. I brush moss of my clothes and face and rub my eyes. I began to hear loud voices approaching closer and closer. I swivelled around, expecting to see another group of micros, but no. They're real..? Everytime they took a step, there was a horrific crunch of twigs and leaves snapping under their feet. Their laughs and jeers were incredibly loud. Macros. A species of human that me and my friends always thought was just to scare children away from going too deep into the forest. Ones who were so huge that they could just pick us up and we could fit into the palm of their hand. Ones that would could destroy the deadly animals of the forest in seconds. The same species me and my friends always made fun of Berry for believing were right in front of my eyes. I stood, my feet completely planted into the ground like tree roots until they turned into my path. I immediately began running, as if for my life. My heart was beating in my throat, and my head was thumping. It was like I had suddenly switched off. I couldn't hear what they said, or what they did, all I could do is run. Suddenly, a shadow began looming over me, and before I knew it, I had been grabbed.
The one who had grabbed me lifted me close to his face. I felt his hot breath on my body.
"Ha!" He said, suddenly and loudly, bursting my ears. Tears began streaming down my face as I began to hyperventilate.
"What is it?"
"It's a tiny human!"
"What!?" Before I knew it, all three of them were crowded around the first guys hand.
"Look! It's a crybaby!"
"Haha! What should we do with it?"
"Piggy in the middle!"
I tried to tell them not to. I tried to scream for help. But I couldn't. Every time I was tossed and caught, all the air was whisked out of my lungs, and an awful spike of pain was sent down my spine. They jeered and laughed at me as I was helplessly thrown about.
Berry's POV
He's gone.. he's fucking gone.. I should've tried to save him... I should've caught him! It's all my fucking fault... what do I do?
Will's POV
Finally, it's the last path. I slowed down slightly, catching my breath. I looked up to see a group of three year sevens at the end. That's funny. I don't usually see anybody down here. I really hope that they don't ruin it... As I approached closer, I heard their voices, jeering and laughing meanly. They were throwing and catching something between them, but I couldn't see what it was. I heard some bits of their conversation.
"Crybaby"
"Fucking looser"
"How pathetic"
"Oi! Fuck off!" I yelled at them. They whipped their heads around, then immediately started running away, leaving whatever it was they were throwing and catching on the ground. I run up to it, expecting some kind of special keyring or rock that might have belonged to somebody. But what I found was far from it. Laying, tear struck and unconscious, tangled amongst a small patch of grass, was a person. I picked him up gently. Wow... He fitted perfectly into my palm and was barely taller than my little finger. It was just like the book I was reading. A person - no different to any of us, just incredibly small. I could help him...
I continue the small trek up to my house, thinking about how I would help the little person - and even becoming friends with him. I'd have somebody I could go to the forest with then, and I could talk to him whenever I felt lonely. I already didn't care about how much trouble I'd be in at home for being late - I was just super happy to find such a cool friend.
