Landon Chapman, despite being the son of a successful businessman, despite becoming an icon of confidence and independence in his own trade, despite being nearly 24, living in his own home and supporting himself, finds himself in the middle of a breakdown, sobbing in a stranger's arms.

He hates to admit it, but he was fully determined to end his life on this beautiful summer night.

Landon doesn’t really remember where the stranger came from, but they are awfully familiar. Maybe some person he’s seen on the streets or something. Whoever they are, they knew.

How. Did. They. Know.

Being a spokesman for his father’s business, Landon was exceptional at keeping his emotions masked, at smiling even when his entire world could be falling apart.

Which it is.

The stranger, who has been silently holding him, slowly, cautiously, pulls away, and Landon gasps.

She’s beautiful.

“Are you okay?” she asks, her voice husky like she had done a lot of shouting recently.

She has dark, wavy black hair that frames her perfect face.

    “No,” Landon says on impulse.

Her eyes… they burn like fire

    “Sorry, dumb question,” she laughs.

She has full red lips. She’s beautiful. And she looks nothing like the girl who nearly destroyed him.
