chapter four: ghostface, meet ghostface

Riley, Sam, and Tara head toward the police station. However, Sam's phone rings — a dead man calls. 'Richie Kirsch' lights up her screen.

Sam's stomach drops. "I never deleted his contact," she admits.

"Don't pick it up," Tara warns.

But her sister ignores her. Picking up the phone, "Who is this?"

A sort of familiar voice speaks from the other end, "Hello Samantha." It's the same voice every Ghostface uses, even in the Stab movies.

Riley really begins to worry. I'm supposed to be Ghostface, who the fuck is this?

"Did you miss me?" The voice taunts the older sister.

"I want you to think long and hard about whether you really want to do this." Sam is trying to be brave in front of Tara, but she's really terrified. "Because the last two people that fucked with us ended up dead."

"You should be thanking me, Sam. Jason and Greg were gonna kill your sister. I gutted them before they had the chance." The voice lies about Jason, but keeps confidence in their voice.

"So what, you're protecting us now?" Sam asks.

"Not quite," Ghostface continues. "I'm going to show the world who you really are: a liar and a killer. I'm going to punish you, Sam."

"You shouldn't believe everything you read on the internet, asshole." Sam looks around, hoping she can see the caller somewhere watching them.

"Don't be cute. You're going to pay for what you did, and I'm not going to stop until I butcher you." He pauses. "You, and anyone who gets between us."

Suddenly, Ghostface appears and grabs Tara from behind. She manages to elbow him in the face, causing him to stumble back.

Sam grabs her sister, telling her and Riley to run.

They take cover in a bodega, Tara immediately shouting for help. She begs the cashier or anyone to call the police. Riley begins to panic, "Oh shit. Holy shit."

Ghostface storms into the store. Silence falls. The three panicked students back up as a customer stands up to the figure. "You got a problem here, guy?"

The customer is quickly stabbed to death, along with another man who tries to fight back. Other patrons of the store flee.

The cashier cocks his shotgun, firing a round toward Ghostface. The villain takes cover.

"Girls," the cashier calls. "Go out the back!"

"Thank you!" Tara says, before they all head toward the door. But it's locked. "Keys, we need your keys!"

The man tries to reach for his keys, but Ghostface comes back to kill him. He stabs the man, watching him fall. Then, he uses his own shotgun to kill him.

Great, now Ghostface has a gun. Riley motions for the girls to move, the three of them trying to take cover and move toward the front door silently.

Sam stops them, sensing that their exit is blocked. Riley tries to be brave. Her revenge plan could be ruined by this second Ghostface.

Riley uses her hands to motion and tell the sisters to keep moving, before crawling the opposite way. She goes for the corpse of the man from behind the counter. His face is nothing now from being shot — proving to be too much gore for her likeness. She reaches and pulls the knife from his chest. She's familiar with this weapon.

Tara has been a good friend, so that's more incentive for Riley to fight back. She slowly stands up enough to find the masked villain. She crouches back down to move closer.

Sam catches a glimpse of Riley last minute, as she stands to try and stab Ghostface. He sees her in the reflection of the store's security dome, and quickly turns around to fire a shot, missing. Riley's knife swipe also misses, the two bumping into one another and falling over together.

Tara and Sam witness their friend fight back. Riley shouts for them to get out while they can, "Run!" But they hesitate, not wanting to leave her behind.

Ghostface tries to stand up, and immediately gives Riley a kick in the ribs. She scoots back and reaches for the gun. She doesn't quite make it, as he grabs her by the ankles and drags her further from the weapon.

He tries to climb on top of her, ready to choke her out. But Sam and Tara team up. They knock a shelf over.

The enemy half notices, trying to stand to escape. But he doesn't stand up in time, getting knocked over and stuck under the shelf.

Riley was further enough out of the aisle to dodge the shelf. The sisters help her up, and they all run outside. The police show up just in time, their lights and sirens signaling Ghostface that he needs to escape.

Policemen run inside. The Carpenter sisters are shocked that they're once again the target of a Ghostface. Riley, on the other hand, is at a loss for words. Who was that?

Detective Bailey is there, with another cop asking to escort Sam and Tara to the police station for questioning — the reason he told Quinn to pass the phone to her earlier.

Riley gives them a nod, signaling that it's okay for them to go. She leans against the building to try and process what just happened. She hears footsteps, and sees Ethan running over.

"Ethan?"
