So, I wanted to bring awareness to Non-Epileptic psychogenic seizures. PNES are types of seizures that aren't caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain, but instead are caused by underlying psychological disstress. They can be triggered by memories, physical symptoms, emotions and thoughts. PNES usually resemble epileptic seizures, and while they aren't actually epileptic seizures, they still need to be treated properly.
I wanted to bring awareness to PNES because I've been around a kid who has them. Ive seen PNES happen right in front of me, and while seeing it happen was traumatic for me, its only made me wanna help. Because now when i see anyone have any type of seizure, I'm watching that person like a hawk to make sure their safe. I encourage you to do research on what you can do to help.
Its important to keep everyone calm and deter away any crowds if someone has a PNES in public. Put their head on something soft for protection. Do NOT restrain them or put something in their mouth, that could put both you and the person in danger! Speak to them calmly too. Calmly call authorities too but only if necessary! Try grounding the person and keep them away from possible safety hazards (ex: furniture, hard tile, sharp objects)
