A/N: Angst for Jade! Ish. Angst to slight little tiny bit of fluff. But only a pinch. Not the saddest on the world, but I'm trying.Granted, the next one is about Floyd, but it can be considered angst for you Jade fans too! Because he becomes very sad. And that might made you sad? Maybe?
-Crimson Colored Sand-
I was walking down the beach, minding my own business. That's when I saw it. Off in the distance was a mass of blue. An almost turquoise or teal color so unnatural it suck out from the sand in the sort of disturbingly obvious manner. A thousand thoughts instantly chased my mind.
Earlier that morning had been like any other of my life. To say that any other was totally different from the last. A non-magic weirder in a school built for mages. Best friend of two idiots and a talking cat. A crow for a headmage and a merman for a boyfriend. A perfectly normal life, to say that normal could shift to any form of definition.
Jade Leech, twin brother of Floyd Leech. Missing when I arrived at Mostro Lounge. Azul had explained how he went for a walk through the mountains. Floyd had told me they planned to meet later by the ocean, tossing me an illegal potion and telling me I should join. (I was glad it hadn't broke right then and there- how embarrassing it would have been to transform in front of all those people.)
I have been searching for hours now. Walking for so long my legs began to hurt. My muscles screamed at me, my mouth dry. I was tempted to drink the salt water several times, but I knew that would only make matter worse.
And now my eyes lay upon a mass of turquoise (or was it teal?) spread out along the pale yellow sand. A splotch standing out against where the land met the sky.
The heat of the day was horrendous, assaulting everything that it touched. It was scorching, leaving me drenched in sweat. So why would Jade be on the sand? It was dangerous for his species to stay in this weather for too long. Sunbathing was not an option for anyone in merform. This was not something he could have forgotten.
I felt my pace quicken. Faster still until I could see more clearly.
Red.
The sand around him was red. The water lapped slowly at his tail, Jade's body curled into a tighter ball. His chest was rising and falling at a quickened pace.
I fell to my knees beside him, I could barely tell how bad my hands shook. Jade lifted his hand slowly, placing it upon my cheek.
"Ah, Y/n..." He trailed off. "I'm so glad that you...found me." He coughed slightly towards the end, though flashed a weakened smile.
I was quick to pull out my phone, sharing my location with both Floyd and Azul. There was a major gash in Jade's side, but it didn't seem deep enough to be fatal. Fear still clouded my vision despite this. I couldn't believe something like this could happen-
"What (did) happen?" I asked, tears falling like rain from my eyes.
Jade tried to lift himself slightly, but quickly winced. He seemed frustrated by this state, that was more apparent by the second. How badly did he wish to comfort me?
"I had been collecting trinkets near a sandbank while waiting for you and my brother. There was this interesting colorful glass object sticking up from the sand and I had thought it would make a perfect decoration for one of my terrariums." He let out a small sigh, though his breathing came out jagged and harsh.
"I had...not been paying attention. I regret to say. The water had been merky in that area, but fishermen had caught sight of me. I pulled the spear out of my side but it proved to be rather...painful-."
He was in pain, but more clearly, embarrassed. Upset that I could see him like this. The relief he had first felt was now overran and taken over.
I had to carry him back. It was the only way. We weren't so far from school that it would be impossible, but there was no telling if the others would receive the message I had sent. I could imagine them both swimming in the water, searching there. After all, that's were Jade had told us he would be.
I wiped my tears, taking the towel I held around my shoulders and tying it best I could around the wound. I then placed my arms under the moray, slowly lifting his weight.
To be honest, Jade was much heavier in the form. His long muscular tail threw me off balance. It wasn't until he wrapped it around my shoulder and torso that I could stand straight, but I could also see that the movement was rather agonizing for him as well. I had to walk
Indignation was apparent on his features, painted thickly. For once, Jade did not keep his collected facade, furrowing his brows and frowning deep enough to be seen for miles.
"You shouldn't be the one taking care of me." He voiced as I trudged along. "It is wrong."
"No Jade. For once, I get to help you- when you need it most."
A/N: As I said, if that wasn't sad enough, you can always go to the next chapter eheheh- I tried. This one was the first one I made, so it wasn't as tear inducing. Still though, I hope you were satisfied.
