DEAN + CAS 4 EVA

First Last Day

"Hey, Cas, wake up!" Gabe shouts, waking Cas by pounding on his door. He groans and drags himself out of bed.

"Last first day of school." He mumbles to himself faking enthusiasm. He looks into his closet and pulls out one of his many suits. It's not like he doesn't have other clothes, it's just this is what he was raised and likes wearing. Then he pulls on his favourite trench coat, this he only has one of and wears every day. He walks into his bathroom, looking in the mirror, groaning when he sees his messy dark brown hair that he can never tame. His mother is always telling him to fix it but he never can, it is almost like something out of a Harry Potter book, not that he could say that because his mother never let him read Harry Potter because 'witchcraft is against god' he had to read them in secret. Under his blue eyes he sees the faint bags caused by late nights spent studying or doing things his mother banned while she sleeps. After brushing his teeth he walks downstairs to see his family already gathered around the table.

His place is already set and his plate filled, starting to cool, when he sits down. The giant table has 13 chairs sitting at it even though 9 are filled. His father and 3 oldest brothers are all gone. His father, Chuck Novak, runs a huge business that keeps him traveling for 11 months a year. He began doing this when Cas was two years old. When his father is home their home is a happy place while during the rest of the year the house is a grim sad place.

His mother, Naomi, used to be a happy person before his father started leaving, apparently, Cas no longer remembers that version of her. She is now an angry woman who hits, staves, and ignores her children if they bother her, do something she doesn't like, or even catch her in a bad mood. She doesn't like children even though she has 11, which is why she doesn't care for them and they must take care of each other. She spends all her time in her office, ignoring even the baby.

The oldest brothers Michael, Lucifer, and Raphael are all moved out. Michael and Raphael are studying to become a doctor and a lawyer, respectively. Cas didn't know them well because they never bothered with the younger children. Mother always liked them because they did as she said and studied hard at school. She says they are good respectable men who will find good respectable wives. She leaves their rooms as they left them and their seats at the table to show the other children an example of how good they could be and how her love could be earned. The other brother Lucifer was a rebel, the exact opposite of the other two. He constantly intentionally angered their mother. He drank, got tattoos, had sex, and did anything else he thought his mother would hate. She disowned him when Cas was 12, none of them have seen or heard of him since.

The next oldest child is Anna. She like Cas pretends to be the type of person their mother wants them to be but secretly rebels. She is 19 now and could leave and follow her dreams of seeing the world and falling in love, but she stays to help protect the younger children from their mother. She is the one who prepares their food and takes care of them like their mother should. Cas know she hates it and wants her to be happy but he doesn't know what they would do without her.

Zachariah is also an adult now, even though he is only a year older than Cas. He is happy to be the oldest boy or the man of the house for now. He like their mother loves power and that is why they get along, he is her lap dog. Zachariah goes out of his way to get the others in trouble. He graduated last year and is taking a gap year before beginning training to eventually take over their father's business.

Balthazar is Cas's twin brother and one of his best friends along with Meg Masters. Balthazar and Meg are always in trouble, not the point Lucifer was but it is getting there. Cas tries his best to keep them out of prison. It's actually becoming harder because Meg recently got into drugs and Balthazar began stealing things. No one would guess that Cas and Balthazar are twins if they didn't say so, they look and act nothing alike.
