Dean walks out of his last class to see his friends waiting for him. It, like all but the first, was boring. He only had one other class with Cas, Math with Mr. Turner or as Dean calls him Rufus. Rufus is a close friend of Bobby's but that doesn't mean Dean gets any special treatment in class. Outside the classroom Rufus is a close family friend, inside the classroom they are just a student and a teacher. In that class Cas sat in the front while Dean sat in the back. Dean spent all class staring at him. He tried to pay attention but gave up to daydream about the gorgeous boy, he figured nothing important would happen on the first day.
"Yo, Deano, what were you texting us about? Some pretty boy?" Charlie shouts.
"Dude, volume." Dean hisses. Charlie is a great friend, but sometimes she gets excited.
"What's this boy like? I need details!" Jo screeches excitedly. Dean gives up on trying to keep the volume down and begins to ramble about Cas.
"God, he's so fucking pretty! He has messy dark brown hair, these really blue eyes, like the bluest eyes you've ever seen, and was dressed so nice. Like, he was wearing a suit and a trench coat, what high school kid wears a fucking suit, but he didn't look preppy or stuck up. He looked kinda ruffled, like he just rolled out of bed, had sex, got in a fight, or all three! He was sarcastic to Ms. Abaddon and really smart too he knew all the answers in class. I really just want to know him! I going to talk to him in detention today see if he swings this way, you know?"
"Dean, you've had like one conversation with this kid," Kevin reminds him.
"I know. I shouldn't care this much, but he seems interesting and I want to get to know him," Dean explains, "He might not be even be interested in guys but I am attracted to him and what's the harm in at least trying."
"I hope this works out for you, brother." Benny tells him, finally chiming in.
"Me too. Anyway since I got a detention can someone give Jo and Sammy a ride home?" Dean asks remembering what Ellen told him that morning. It turned out that Kevin failed his driving test, again. The kid might be a genius but he sucked at driving, he is a walking Asian stereotype. Since Benny doesn't have a car of his own at the moment, its locked away in Dean's garage waiting for an oil change, that left Charlie to give them all a ride in her tiny car.
Dean picks the window in case the teacher they get stuck with is a hard ass who would make them 'sit quietly and think about what they did', thankfully the teacher in charge is just Mr. Jones and although he used to be a good teacher now he's too old to care about anything and everyone is just waiting for him to retire or die on the job.
Cas came in almost late for detention. Dean wonders if this is something he makes a habit of. The boy and girl he walks in with sit down just in front of Dean while Cas stops to ask Mr. Jones if he can make a phone call. As he unlocks his phone he makes eye contact and smiles at Dean. Dean smiles back at the boy before turning to look out the window and watch his friends attempt to pile into Charlie's little car. When they eventually pull out of the school parking lot Dean has no distractions to stop him from listening in to the end of Cas's conversation.
"I know... I'm the worst. I promise I'll make it up to you! Bye, Anna, see you soon. Love you." Dammit Cas has a girlfriend. He must have just been canceling a date with her, Dean felt strangely jealous of the unknown Anna. Cas sees him staring and smiles at him again but this time Dean can't bring himself to smile back.
He watches as Cas sits beside his friends. He hears the boy ask if she was mad. Cas just responds "You know Anna. She took it better than I expected. I just feel really bad."
"It's not your fault, Cassie," the girl tells him "Ms. Abaddon should have let you explain why you were late."
"Like I'd throw you guys under the bus, I thought I was minimising the damage but here you are." Cas laughs. Dean admires the way his eyes the way his eyes crinkle and sparkle while he laughs at the apparent irony. Dean is excited at the idea of finding out why Cas was late.
"After you stopped us from killing that bitch we ignored her until lunch. She started saying the same shit about our families. She talked about Mom, Dad, Meg's father, Meg's...um... little problem, Anna, and even the kids! We had to do something!" the boy explains
"Stupid whore didn't know what she was talking about. None of her business, anyway!" the girl growls.
"Bella Talbot is a horrible person and bully, but you don't need to sink down to her level." Cas tells them.
"No, Cas, you don't understand. She said that Alfie is probably Anna's baby not Mom's and that Anna's just a lying slut. That's why she hasn't left town yet even though she graduated two years ago. Even said the baby is probably one of her older brother's!" the boy explained to a rage filled Cas. His jaw was clenched, his eyes full of hatred, and he was almost shaking. No one would want that anger directed at them.
"After this we're going to slash her tires!" he whispers so quietly Dean can barely hear him
