Chapter no - 4 - Cranky Old Captain

Disclaimer - This is a fan fiction. A little tribute/my version of what may have happened to lead to or after these events. Other than the general outline of the events (which actually took place) everything else is made up. Some events are taken from interviews etc but the rest remains a head canon of mine. It is probably not what happened (more than probably) and should not be taken as any modicum of truth.

The incident in this fanfic is probably one of the most controversial we have had in recent times. I have just written about my head canon, which is in no manner related to the truth.

There is no intention to hurt or malign anybody. All members of ICT are most respected by me and this is just a fictional point of view. No incident have any resemblance to what actually may have happened.

Summary - It was just after the South Africa wherein Virat had announced his decision to step down from the Test Captaincy. MS had lent his support and had tried to boost up the youngster's morale. Therefore, the 'message' came as a surprise. What was ailing this young protege of Dhoni's? Can the Captain lead the youngster to the right path again? Or will Virat take some drastic decision? How does the team, specially Rohit, Jinks, Hardik Pandya, and, Rahul have to do with this?

Primarily – Mahirat. RohitMahiRat to some extent. May Include some other members of the ICT. Texts and calls and flashbacks are in bold.

There is some language - Swear Words

Solitude but with company.

MS has always been a little introverted but he had never shied away from company. He was the kind of person who preferred to take the back seat of the bus provided that the bus was full. He never preferred to take the centre stage but was always content to participate from the sidelines. This was one of the reasons why he was favoured by the youngsters. He knew how to enjoy with them, without demanding the limelight.

But despite it all, he had to accept that the first person, in the team, to really pull him out of his shell, had been Yuvi.

Yuvi had been cocky, brash and had an attitude to boot. But once he got to know him, and somewhat understand him, Mahi had found that there could seldom be a better friend to be found. They had been the best of friends and the worst of enemies. The kids in the team today thought that the fights between Virat and Rohit are bad but they had no clue about the decimals that Mahi and Yuvi would touch and the sheer legendary nature of their fights.

They had no idea about the lectures that Dada would deal out and the punishments he would fashion, just to make them stop fighting.

But despite it all, MS knew that Yuvi would fight the world if it dared to antagonise Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Where Sonu was his niche of peace, Yuvi was his wildcard, who would always fight at his side, regardless of what misunderstandings clouded their relationship.

Virat was a lot like Yuvi. It was very obvious from the get go. The same spirit, the same passion for the game, the same flamboyancy, the same fuck-it attitude towards rules. It was their world and they ruled it. And god save any, who choose to cut their paths.

Or try to harm or hurt the people they cared about.

They were one of a kind and yet very different. Where Yuvi would throw anger back at face and then disappear for months on end, Virat was one to internalise it and more often than not, make it so that he turns out to be the villain.

MS feared Virat's internalisation, having been at the end of it several times. It was a real chore to talk that boy out of whatever funk he would drag himself into.  But it was Virat's uncanny similarity to Yuvi that had first endeared the boy to him but it was the difference that had led him to become the protective big brother.
